Bloom in the radiance of Orchids
Bloom in the radiance of Orchids!
Have fun with Pantone’s color of 2014.
It’s the year of the Radiant Orchid says global authority on color, Pantone. A color that blooms with confidence and magical warmth to intrigue and enthrall. It’s a sparkling, creative and captivating hue. Think of an exotic, delicious blend of fuchsia, purple and pink, in fact, it’s all that’s loving, charming and joyful. As Executive Director at the Pantone Color Institute Leatrice Eiseman explains, “It’s a captivating color, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”
The perfect way to add a sparkle to your looks
Makeup artists and designers are fascinated by this fairylike color. Says Ojas Rajani, celeb makeup artist says, “It’s a magical color that reminds me of passion and royalty. What’s more it’s a versatile color that works on almost all skin tones.” Makeup expert Arshis Javeri adds, “The combination of pinks, lilac and purple makes it perfect to flaunt on lips, eyes or nails when you want to add some oomph or rosy undertones to your style.” In fact, designers are falling over themselves—from Juicy Couture to Jackie Fraser-Swan—to showcase this dazzling show stopper in their Spring/Summer clothing and accessory collections. In fact, Javeri says, the reason for the mass hysteria over Radiant Purple has to do with the versatility of the shade; “It blends with both cool and warm undertones lighting up your complexion.”
Make purple your go-to hue for eyes
“Purple is one of the shades that makes brown eyes pop! It’s a great shade for a quick party look!” says beauty tutorial expert and blogger Ankita Chaturvedi. “If you have 15 minutes to dress for a posh evening do, a jeweled purple eye shadow is the way to go,” she says. Fair skin tones look great with medium purple smoky eyes (combine Max Factor Smoky Eye Effect Eye Shadow, Shade Pink Plume, with L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Eyeshadow Palette – Cannes’13 Special, Shade Hidden Gems). Meanwhile medium skin tones look stunning with gray or silver eyes, lit up with a purple eyeliner or mascara. Combine NYX Professional Makeup Full Throttle Shadow Palette – Bossy (Shade TESO8) with Rimmel Glam Eyes Liquid Liner (Shade Intense Plum). Meanwhile dusky gals can play up their eyes with a brighter shot of purple (Lakme Absolute Drama Stylist Eye Shadow Crayon, Shade Purple) and pair it with a lilac lippie like Colorbar Take Me As I M Lipstick (Shade Lip Smacking Cherry) or pearlescent gloss like L’Oreal Paris Glam Shine Gloss 6 Hr (Shade Purple Obsession).
Flaunt Radiant Orchid with confidence
Still not sure you can carry off this hue? No problem, take your pick of Radiant Orchid inspired brilliant nail paints such as Sally Hansen Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Color (Shades Lavender Marquis, Berry Pretty) or L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Vernis (Shade So Chic Pink). For color challenged gals, here’s a tip: Radiant Orchid works really well with red and its sister shades, lavender, purple and pink. The trick though is to make sure your complexion is flawless and smooth before you apply such eye popping shades. “Keep foundation soft and glowy and apply a concealer under eyes or where skin is uneven,” suggests Rajani. Nykaa recommends Lakme Absolute Face Stylist Foundation and L’Oreal Paris True Match Concealer. Before applying eye shadow, apply a color stay primer like Bourjois Flower Perfection Translucent Smoothing Primer on lids to ensure color doesn’t crease. Underlay purple shadow with champagne or lavender shadow (L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Eyeshadow Palette – Cannes’13 Special Collection, Shade Eau de Rose), all the way to the outer corner of your eyes under the brow bone. Then overlay with your choice of purple shadow. Apply a charcoal or black liner on your base lash and smudge with purple shadow for a softly smoky look. Finish up with a lashing of mascara. We like Lakme Eyeconic Kajal and L’Oreal Paris Lash Architect 4D Mascara.
Not sure you can carry off Radiant Orchid?
Wear a dazzling shade of fuchsia instead! In fact, Nykaa predicts Fuchsia is the New Red! It’s a playful, happy color without the drama of red. Line eyes with gray or black liner and then finish up with Deborah Milano Red Lipstick (Shade Fuchsia Bolero) or L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Le Lip Gloss (Shade Watermelon Crush). Apply lightly on the top of cheekbones, under the arch of brows and of course on your pout!
Accessorizing Radiant Purple with your clothes
Since Radiant Orchid brings out the rosy undertones in your skin, try combining a dove gray top with a black or charcoal gray skirt or trousers when you wear Radiant Orchid on eyes. Pair purple eyes with a burnt rose blouse and silver jewelry for a vintage vibe. Or combine with a sequined forest green dress and pearls for a hot date.
