Right from the first sprouting of facial hair, our worlds were determined by the fates of our shaving brushes, creams and razors. A large part of our good mornings were defined by how cut and nick-free our shaving sessions ended up being. We understand that little OCD part of you who wants your stubble just so. But, for a simple tool, the shaving brush is pretty crucial to our good looks. Have you ever paused mid shave to wonder if your shaving friend is being taken care of like it’s supposed to be? No need to head on a guilt trip, let us show you five easy ways to take care of your shaving essentials.
Know when it’s time to clean your brush
The key is to know when your brush is craving a cleansing bath. When the bristles begin to lose their suppleness, know that your brush is showing signs of a mid-life crisis. It’s time to pay it some attention and give it some TLC.
Your shaving brush will either be a boar haired model or a badger haired one. Begin the cleaning ritual by soaking it in warm water. Lather up with a good quality shampoo and conditioner and rinse well. Remember to continue rinsing till no soapy residue is left.
How to make them suds-free
In case you find some soapy residue from previous shaving sessions, simply soak your brush in a 10:1 vinegar solution (ten parts of water and one-part white vinegar) and repeat the process above to finish off the cleaning.
Easy and gentle does it
While applying shaving cream, make sure you go gentle and easy. The core of the brush is your Yoda and you don’t want to go mashing it around. Rough use can twist and break core hairs, eventually leading to hair loss of bristles and causing a dimpled effect in the centre of your brush.
Post shave care
After you’ve given your shaving brush its much needed bath time, shake off excess water and hang it upside down on a stand to dry. If you don’t own a shaving stand, pat it dry thoroughly with a towel.
