Five tips to slim down in just five days!
The wedding season is just round the corner but it’s never too late to get into your best shape ever. And no, we’re not recommending you start the cabbage soup diet or nibble on lettuce. Instead, strengthen, lengthen and tone your bod with these five easy to follow, healthy tips.
Contrary to what you’ve heard, glugging down a meal is a good way of getting adequate calories without using a lot of time or energy for digestion. It’s a great way to boost metabolism, balance sugar levels and burn fat. Want to lose weight fast? Replace breakfast and lunch with a protein and fat (yep you read right) rich smoothie and eat a hearty dinner of fish or paneer with green veggies. You’ll need to blend together nuts or protein powder along with fresh fruits and veggies for a whopping dose of antioxidants, vitamins, protein and fiber.
Here’s the recipe:
- 1 cup coconut water
- 1 cup low fat milk
- 10 almonds
- 1 cup of pineapple
- 1 cup chopped banana
- 1 handful mint leaves
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 2 dates
- 1 handful baby spinach
Blend it together and drink up to feel (and look) like a million bucks!
Strategize your workout
Interval training is the way to go. Especially if you want a toned, lean look quick. Pick a high intensity interval training (HIIT) workout. Interval training is all about including intense periods of work with short recovery segments. Sprint for five minutes, walk for one minute, sprint again, and so on. The magic of HIIT is that it keeps your body burning fat even after you leave the gym. Then, toward the end of the week, switch to a hot yoga class to lengthen sore muscles and purge excess water weight.
12 hour fast
There’s something to be said for a 12 hour fast between dinner and breakfast. For six to eight hours after dinner your body is focused on digestion. However, the last four hours are devoted to detox and the most effective time to burn fat in those hard to trim places; thighs, bums and tums. Eating late at night or having a post-dinner snack prevents fat burning in the latter part of the night. So if you’re addicted to popcorn post dinner or a midnight slice of cake, stop right away. That harmless little snack puts an end to fat burning and detoxing for the evening.
You’ve heard it before but we’ll say it again. Getting your eight hours is vital for regulating hormones, decreasing inflammation and keeping you slim. Moreover, deep sleep calms hunger hormones to make it easier to stick to your diet. Make sure you sleep in a cool, dark room and keep your phone on silent.
Keep your system chugging smoothly
Many women suffer from indigestion; constipation, bloating and gas. To keep you regular—and lean—aim to get at least eight glasses of water and at least 30 grams of fiber daily. Eating fresh fruit and veggies, whole grains, leafy greens and flax seeds daily is the best way to ensure you get your daily 30 grams of fiber. Avoid sugars (unless they’re naturally sweet foods like fruit), colas and carbonated drinks. They feed on yeast and bacteria in the gut causing flatulence and constipation. Drink a glass of water with a squeeze of lemon juice at the start of each meal before your food arrives. And then bask in the attention!
