High octane styles we loved at LFW Winter / Festive ’14 - I
The Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive, 2014, extravaganza recently ended on a glamourous note at the Palladium Hotel in Mumbai. Every star worth her fame, from Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu and Nargis Fakhri to Sushmita Sen, Jacqueline Fernandez, Shilpa Shetty and Chitrangada Singh strutted the ramp for their favorite designers. Not to be left out, newcomers Esha Gupta, Elli Avram, Kirti Sanon, Varun Dhawan and Diana Penty also make a mark as they turned showstoppers for leading designers, as did cricketer Yuvraj Singh and southern sizzlers Shriya Saran, Shruti Haasan and Tapsee Pannu. All in all, it was five days of glamor, glitz and gorgeous people both on and off the ramp.
It was only right that the finale orchestrated by Bollywood’s favorite designer, Manish Malhotra, saw the film industry’s most glamorous people come together. The show kicked off with an energized Varun Dhawan in a Harris tweed jacket, black jodhpurs and Mercury sunglasses in bright pink. He was followed by Kareena Kapoor Khan in a glittering silver low-back kurta over a shaded shimmering paneled lehenga and grey tulle cape. Rooting for Malhotra were star-studded front benchers including Karan Johar, Kajol, Karishma apoor, Priyanka Chopra, Celina Jaitly, Juhi Chawla, Sridevi and Boney Kapoor.
Sifting through all the collections showcased at LFW Winter/Festive 2014, Nykaa presents its most favorite looks that stand head and shoulders above the banal, ordinary and good. Even better, learn how you make these looks your own.
Vikram Phadnis showed off his latest collection. He managed to rope in Bollywood beauties Bipasha Basu and Dia Mirza to display some of his finest creations. Being seasoned showstoppers and pageant winners, the two actresses looked ethereal, elegant and stylish, doing Phadnis’ elaborate creations full justice.
Bipasha’s outfit was all about stunning richness. She was dressed in a maroon lehenga choli; the lehenga featured elaborate gold embroidery. A red, grey and beige dupatta was draped across the choli like the pallu of a sari. We really do like that look on her. Statement dangling earrings, deeply smoky eyes and a voluminous updo completed her ensemble.
Dia’s look was as classy as Bipasha’s but more muted and understated. She donned a beige lehenga and a full-sleeved long beige choli, topped with a short sleeveless black jacket embellished with rich gold embroidery and a yellow dupatta highlighted with intricate, rich gold embroidery on the border. Her look was rounded out with dangling earrings, glowy makeup and a braided updo.
Malaika Arora Khan lit up the ramp in a fire engine red mermaid cut gown as she walked the ramp for fashion designer Sonaakshi Raaj. The red lace bodice–under laid with nude fabric-extended beyond the hips to the thighs. The back also featured the same nude and red lace combo which painted a very pretty (and sexy, we daresay) picture indeed.
Malaika set the ramp ablaze with her super-fit bod. She is one Khandaan bahu who has made her mark at every event we’ve ever spotted her. Her hair was styled in side-swept curls, a very popular do at countless Hollywood and Bollywood red carpets events this year. Meanwhile, the apples of her cheeks were dusted with blush and the eyes defined to complete the elegant yet sizzling look.
Fashion Designer, Varun Bahl chose Bollywood’s favorite ‘daddy’s girl’ forever, Priyanka Chopra to be his showstopper. And what can we say? Priyanka is a natural on the ramp. She somehow glides, never walks! This diva rocks every outfit she wears. Here she stuns in black palazzo pants and a matching crop top, a stylish everyday look that turned into chic evening wear with the addition of a sequined silver jacket and heavy statement neckpiece.
Varun’s range included biker jackets, shirts, trousers, skirts and dresses embellished with Indian embroidery. The color theme was black and silver grey interlaid with soft blue, beige and pink. Silk, satin, tulle, cotton and crepe were the main fabrics used. Even though the choice of garments were wearable attire, he pumped up the style quotient by adding his unique designs and including interesting Indian craft detailing. Priyanka’s hair was done in an elaborate avant garde-meets-1960’s-housewife look, not an easy style to carry off. The stunning actress looked like she had the world at her feet as she strutted down the runway for Bahl. Do notice the winged eyeliner teamed up with nude kajal in the waterline. We love it!
On Day 2 the stunning Chitrangada Singh set the Jabong Stage ramp on fire as the showstopper for designer Harshita in a South Indian inspired traditional lehenga choli. Harshita’s collection was inspired by devdasis who lived in the temples of south India; the motifs used in the traditional collection were inspired by the carvings in temples in the city of Tanjore in South India.
The jewellery worn by Chitrangada was a recreation of ornate temple jewelry and ornaments. The range itself featured handloom fabrics; Kancheepuram and Chanderi silk along with net. Chitrangada was decked in a deep red lehenga with gold and bronze embroidery. The intricate temple motifs were weaved into the fabric using the ancient Zardori silk embroidery technique. Heavy traditional jewelry complimented the look. But the black cherry on top was the deep black kohl smudged artfully around the gorgeous star’s eyes. Absolutely sultry and stunning.
