How to drop 2 kg right before your wedding!
There’s nothing like an upcoming wedding—especially our own—to spur you into action. But somehow in the hurly burly of preparing for a wedding, diets tend to go haywire. If you’re trying to lose those last couple of inches before your big day, here are some easy-to-implement tricks to help you tip those scales in the right direction!
Ditch those cocktails
We all know the seductive, calorific power of margaritas and daiquiris. So abstaining can actually make a big difference. Did you know that a glass of wine has the same calories as four cookies? Or a pint of lager is the calorific equivalent of a slice of pizza? So abstaining for a month before your wedding can actually help you knock off 2 kg fast. If you can’t imagine life without a drink, try alternating each drink with a glass of water, and choose white wine spritzers (equal parts of wine and club soda) over sugary cocktails.
Keep snacks simple
Instead of absent mindedly reaching for a chocolate bar or chips, eat a protein and fiber rich snack to keep you feeling full for longer. Good options include hummus with vegetables, cottage cheese on whole wheat toast, fruit or a handful of nuts and seeds. Whatever you munch on between meals, pick two or three favorites and stick to them religiously because the more variety you have, the more you tend to eat.
Get creative with your veggies
Vegetables are a powerhouse of fiber, vitamins and antioxidants. Forget the prescribed daily five and go for a daily eight or ten! Get at least four large bowls of veggies daily and liven things up eating them in a variety of ways; stir fried, tossed in a salad, cut into strips to resemble pasta, stuffed in a roti and as a raita with fresh yogurt.
Make a plan
And then stick with it. If you’re planning your big day with such meticulous detail, then spare a minute to planning your meals too. When you don’t plan your meals in advance, the tendency is to grab anything in sight. So take a few minutes to think through your day’s schedule and plan your meals and snacks on the go accordingly. Great carry along snack ideas include roast khakras, nuts and seeds, and fruit.
Supercharge your workout regimen
If you’ve been religiously following your workout regime and still not seeing results, it’s time to change things up a bit. It’s likely you’ve hit a plateau and need to shake things up. Try adding an extra 15 minutes to your jog, throw in some weight training or go for a swim. It’s also a good idea to up your general activity level. Chat with pals on the phone while walking around the house, do some quick stretches whenever you start feeling stressed, the possibilities are endless.
Try a gentle cleanse
There’s no point panicking and going on a crash liquids-only diet. Chances are you’ll be ravenous, irritable and more likely to binge. Replace regular meals with protein shakes, green smoothies (blend together a handful of spinach, coriander, mint and spinach), and fruit and nuts for a couple of days. Then bask in the results!
