You love beautiful straight hair and so you go for hair straightening. You iron your hair on regular basis but slowly and gradually you see the texture and quality of your hair gets tampered and your hair looks ugly, limp and worn out. This is solely due to ignorance and inadequate knowledge. "You can use flat iron on your hair without hampering the texture of your hair by using the correct method and by acquiring the right knowledge," says hair expert Renee Melek.
Flat iron straightens your hair by breaking and bonding the hydrogen bonds present in the hair follicles. The lack of precautions and adequate knowledge can damage the hair. "The damage done by flat iron is hard to repair and most of the time you have to cut your damaged traces," says hair expert Amali Kandasamy, senior stylist for Looks Salon, VK.
The Damages
The straightening of hair may lead to cracking of the cuticles and can dry your hair. "Excessive use of iron can cause serious damage to your hair and can make them frizzy which can cause breakage and split ends," warns Kandasamy.
The flat Iron if applied on wet or moist hair can lead to a buckling on the cuticles. "Iron used on damp hair can sum up the hair moisture and can burn the hair," says Melek.
Use good quality products
'Pre' Cautions
The flat Iron if applied on wet or moist hair can lead to a buckling on the cuticles. "Iron used on damp hair can sum up the hair moisture and can burn the hair," says Melek.
Iron when dry: You can avoid 70 % of the damage by straightening your hair when it is completely dry. " Dry your hair after you shampoo and then use flat iron on your hair and if you don't have time you can use dryers to dry them but never use flat iron on wet hair," suggests Kandasamy.
Quality: Use good quality products. Use shampoo and conditioner of good quality that will moisture your hair so that it looks beautiful and lively. "Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. People having dry hair should go a leave-in conditioner," suggests Melek.
Take care: You should be very protective about your hair if you use flat iron on regular basis. You should oil your hair on regular basis to make your hair manageable and smooth. You can go for hair spa once or twice a month. "You should go for Moroccan oil as it acts like an antioxidant. You can also go for serums and hair masks once in a week to save them from getting damaged," says Melek.
Right temperature: The temperature is a vital aspect of ironing your hair. You should play safe with the temperature and it should not exceed 200 degree Centigrade. "People with good hair should play between 180-200 degree Centigrade and people having dry hair should go for a temperature between 140 -160 degree centigrade,"sums up Melek.
Right Technique: You should apply the correct technique to iron your hair. You should divide your hair in small sections and iron them with care and perfection.
PS: People with dry hair should go for a leave-in conditioner
