Jewelry fit for royal Indian brides
Magnificent ornaments took center stage at the India International Jewelry week .
You’ll be forgiven if you thought ‘Nazraana’, ‘Desire’, ‘Statements of Heaven’ and ‘Zistatva’ were the names of some exotic blooms.
But put these heavenly monikers together with a bevy of beauties ranging from Lara Dutta and Yami Gupta to Kangana Ranaut and Karishma Kapoor and you get a shimmering bridal jewelry extravaganza. The recently concluded International Jewellery Week 2013 that showcased masterpieces for the upcoming bridal season was all about spark and glamor like never before.
Meteoric shower of gems
The big names in the business pulled out all the stops as they displayed a never ending array of beautifully crafted masterpieces. While Rio Tinto showed off its ‘Nazraana’ collection, Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas displayed the ‘Amer’ collection of bridal creations and Hazoorilal unveiled its Tribal, Diamond and Jadau ‘Desire’ sets.
The Gitanjali Group went the whole hog with its Great Indian Wedding Carnival collection to fit the Mehndi, Sangeet, Baraat and Shaadi segments. Meanwhile Kays Jewels Pvt Ltd. unleashed majestic brilliance with its sixteen sets titled ‘Alaukik’ and R K Jewellers presented Prakshi Sharma’s line besides their ‘Zistatva’ line. Another noteworthy collection was the brainchild of Saboo Fine Jewels who merged the beauty of the East and West to create handmade pieces that were both classic yet modern. Favored by Hollywood biggies like Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lopez, the show featured seven collections including the Orion collection with 3D kadas, bangles and cuffs, the Golden Sand gold-centric collection and the Gajner line featuring diamonds, rubies and sapphires in myriad shades. Golecha Jewels of Umrao Jaan and Luck by Chance fame revealed its tastefully opulent line, ‘Royal Indian Brides’ featuring exquisite rose cut and uncut diamonds pearls, rubies and emeralds.
The filmi touch
Bollywood was out in full force to display these majestic masterpieces. Drifting off the beaten path of lissome, popular stars, Golecha Jewels chose to co-opt Bollywood star couple Shabana Azmi and lyricist Javed Akhtar as showstoppers.
The evergreen couple sashayed down the ramp in Vikram Phadnis finery and when asked about the jewelry her husband had gifted her, Shabana coyly said, “ When Javed saab holds my hand or says a piece of poetry for me, that is the biggest jewelry for me.”
Rajasthani royalty takes center stage
The Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas show was all about the exotic beauty of Rajasthan, replete with all the pomp and splendor of the desert state. With Ila Arun sung rousing folk melodies, showstoppers Kangana Ranaut, Vidyut Jammwal and Sharmila Tagore walked the ramp resplendent in rani haars with rows of pearls, jhoomers, and chokers extended into bibs with fort motifs.
Sharmila wore a classy pink sari and Mughal jacket and teamed it with an impressive ruby-diamond neck-piece with three pearl tassels, earrings and bracelets.
