One started it and the other one is carrying forward the legacy. The mother-daughter duo Dr. Blossom and Samantha Kochhar have made aroma therapy big in Indian beauty industry. They talk about their happiness on seeing other women’s excitement after waving their beauty magic wand.
When I saw Dr. Blossom and Samantha Kochhar together at the threshold of FIO – Country Kitchen & Bar, I thought it was officially ‘Contrast Day’. Not only did the mother turn up in a white dress and daughter in black pants and shirt, their modern look merged well with the restaurant’s rustic charm!
But just in case you thought Paris was unapproachable, we beg to differ. For a touch of paris to your look, we’ve got the chic women from the popular blog and website DO IT IN PARIS to share this season’s beauty secrets from the city.
Beauty beyond make-up.
Dr. Blossom sees beauty as a way of life. “It is the deep seated connect between the mind, body and soul. Beauty does not confine only to physical features, but runs deep down to the inner soul (holistic). It comes from within and radiates outside,” she said. Samantha agreed with her and added, “Beauty comes with spirituality. I know someone with wrinkles and moles on her face but I find her beautiful.”
Taking the plunge
To Dr. Blossom a career in beauty industry always intrigued her. So, after she had Samantha and while she was growing up, she decided to take it up seriously. Aren’t we glad she took the plunge and gave all the beauty enthusiasts Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies? Samantha was naturally inclined towards it. “Every girl loves doing make-up. I grew up looking at my mother making others beautiful. When I started doing the same, it made me happy too,” said Samantha.
The one common thread that both have is creativity. Samantha is a genius as far as painting is concerned. Her Mom loves to invent new fragrances and blends
Juggling between family and work.
Both feel fortunate enough to have their family around them even at work. “My husband helped me open this company and took it to great heights, and now my daughter is carrying forward the legacy. Working together makes way for some quality time together with each other, and we tend to understand each other better,” said Dr. Blossom who recently won Lifetime Achievement award. But they also make sure not to carry work home and take good three-month long break every year.
Hair it is
When the experts say short hair is the way to do it when hair loss occurs, you better believe them. Any doubts on that? Dr. Blossom clears it all. “Short hair is fun, effortless and looks smart and chic. Since you have limited resources (hair over here), it makes it all the more interesting to experiment. It brings out the creative self in you,” she explained. Samantha is blessed with long and straight locks which she doesn’t like to experiment with…not anymore. “When I was studying I permed my hair, coloured it, and went for Mohawk hair-do and other eye-widening styles. Now I don’t do much as my son loves my long hair.
He doesn’t like the idea of chopping it off,” she said. When she goes on a trip, her hair goes along. “When I travel, I always take a cleanser, moisturizer and sun block for my skin but my hair needs extra care. If it’s Europe, I have noticed my hair getting straighter and silkier so I don’t use conditioning products. Malaysia somehow makes my hair frizzy. I use serum and conditioning mask there,” she added.
Samantha was born with sensitive skin. Thanks to her Mom, she has a cocoa butter moisturizer which was specially made for her by Dr. Blossom
Naturally From Kitchen
Ask Dr. Blossom about home remedy for skin or hair problem, she will quickly give you a list of veggies and fruits concoction which can be applied. “A mixture of papaya, milk powder and lemon is the best exfoliation treatment. For healthy and lustrous hair, it’s Shikakai,” she suggested. For Samantha, it’s curd! “When my skin gets tanned and needs moisture I apply curd. I swear by it,” she said.
Bright versus Soft.
Dr. Blossom’s wardrobe will reflect more bright colours. Samantha has a functional wardrobe comparatively but soft pastel colours dominate her wardrobe. The difference goes on. The mother is not big on accessories unlike Samantha. “I love heels. They give a touch of femininity to my attire,” she added.
Both consider aging to be a beautiful process. Samantha believes in rejuvenation and questions brands that claim ‘get results within seven days’
