Hair experts talk about the latest strand trends.
Look around you at college girls and ramp models alike, these days. Notice something similar in their hairdos? Yes, you’re bang on; the messy look seems to be a trend that is here to stay. There is no denying the fact that it is one style that works for both formal and informal occasions.
Hair expert Asha Hariharan agrees with the idea of undone, messy hair. She thinks that it can look really beautiful and that it can be worn in a pony, a plait or even in a hair updo. "Although they are the look of the moment, they are so gorgeous and I think they are going to become mainstay in hair fashion," she says. However, she also adds that it is important to personalize each finished look to suit the client. She claims that this statement in hair has been worn by models showcased by designers with the biggest names in the fashion world on fashion runways of the world.
Hair specialist, Shibani says a look has to depend on the occasion you are attending. For example, you do not wear a smoky look to a very casual occasion and it is usually reserved for glamour-filled evening parties. However, everyone today needs something that looks like there has been a lot of effort gone into creating a certain look. "Messy looks are totally in, especially messy ponytails and they look great," avers Shibani.
Asha states that there are endless styles that you can wear and that any expression of a messy hairdo is big now. She shares the various styles that you can try with this look like the one where there is little fly away hair on a nape bun or there is a plait with randomly placed twisted hair on the sides. She also recommends you to try the pony with waves unevenly placed at the frontal hairline. "There are meshes of tonged hair juxtaposed next to each other to form a chignon or even a French roll," adds Asha. Pulling your hair partly out after it has been tied will add a messy look besides it will make your hair look voluminous as well.
Shibani recommends the messy ponytail to be worn on either sides of your head. "You can wear a side pin and wear a plait over it. Another way is to back comb your hair, pin it up and then wear a ponytail with no need for any products to be used," she suggests. She proposes wearing a French braid from left to right and tie it up on the right side. The short hair coming out from the sides will give you the messy look.
THE MESSY KIT
You have to take pains to put a certain look together. The only way it can be appreciated is if it stays long enough for others to see it. For this, we have to make sure that we use the right kind of products and those that are meant for the kind of look that you are creating for yourself. There isn’t a better way of knowing than asking the experts themselves. Asha recommends that you always start by putting in mousse in post shampooed hair and using some type of a style constructing product. "Once the hair has been put in the designed place with all the ruffled areas looking balanced, finish with a flexible finish hair spray and not a strong hold one," instructs Asha
Shibani considers the serum to be the most important product that you should use for your hair. Apart from that, she also mentions the use of a good wet gel to help scrunch up any style that you are creating. This product will help your hair style to stay for a longer time as well. "In the summer, it is difficult to make your hairstyle stay for a long time without the use of products unlike during the winter. So you have to apply products," justifies Shibani.
WORK THE MESSY LOOK
It is true that the likes of Blake Lively and Gwen Stefani are the ones who always get it right but that should not stop you from believing that you cannot. There are occasions where you can wear the up-do or a low pony other than on a red carpet. "Wear an up-do or a high pony only if your function is very formal," suggests Asha. In case of a more informal or fun do like a Sangeet party for an Indian wedding she says that you can keep the hair softer or more relaxed and wear it in a low pony or plait.
While a messy hair expression for a formal evening or a lounge evening is always a little more extended in its finishing, a little more exaggeration is the key here. "When it comes to a working woman, she can bear it again as a plait, pony or a low bun with less of a mess and of course less of the drama as in the formal version," says Asha. The secret behind a look for those working is not to concentrate too much on the neatness of the finish. "Instead put it together casually and as the last stroke, pull out slightly sections of hair after the hair is done and Voila!" she adds.
Shibani proposes the use of the right accessories depending on the nature of the event that you are attending. In the case of working women, she states that it is best that they try something that looks good on you and suits you.
