Short and sassy is in, and how!

It all began in the 1950's when the graceful Audrey Hepburn sported the pixie haircut in her first movie, Roman Holiday. This trend seems to be back with many girls bravely off their tresses for a look that completely transforms their faces. Miley Cyrus, Anne Hathaway, Ginnifer Goodwin are a few who have taken the plunge and added their own personality to the cut.

Let’s look at the famous types of pixie cuts that are back in fashion:

1. Short Cut

Savio John Pereira, one of the most sought after celebrity hairstylists, believes this look to be currently trending as it is more a summer look. He says, "Indian women prefer longer hair rather than a shorter hair cut, especially, mid-aged women. However, more women are approaching this look with the summer setting in."

Snehal Lal D'Cruz, senior hairstylist at Nalini & Yasmin Salon, seems to have the same opinion and says, "After bob haircuts, women have realised that they look good in short hair too and are going in for the pixie cuts." This look is easy to maintain and you do not have to stand in front of the mirror wondering how you want to tie your hair up today. Besides, it is always a good idea to try something new. Variety is the spice of life!

2. Curly Haired Pixie

If you have curly hair it does not mean that you will be deprived of this look though you have to put in a little effort of your own too. Savio says that women with curly hair can also attain this look. "They will have to use products as well as blow-dry or relax it to attain a good look," instructs Savio. You can use products like hair gel, cream and wax for your hair to attain the desired hairstyle.
Snehal on the other hand says that those with straight to wavy hair should try this look as it is very difficult to achieve it with curly hair. "If you have very thin curly hair then you can work on it by applying a few products but if the hair is very coarse then it might be a little too difficult to attain the look," says Snehal. She adds that the pixie haircut involves a lot of movement and curly hair restricts you from doing that.

3. Oval Of The Matter

According to both hairstylists, this cute and feminine haircut is best suits for those with an oval face. Snehal adds, "The more petit face and chiselled your features are, the better it will look on you." She further adds that a small frame can also work in your favour. Savio mentions that those with different face cuts need to personalize the look for it to suit them. However, he says that this is the job of the hair dresser, "It depends on the skills of the hair dresser how well they are able to personalize it." Snehal suggest that you can also play around with bangs or perhaps spike it all up in a way that suits your face type.

4. Coloured Effect

According to Savio, you can play with the colours with this cut by going in for global and fine highlights. If you feel that you need more option then Snehal suggest highlighting the tips of your hair a bright colour and leaving the rest of your hair a natural colour. Yet another style she mentions is to colour only your bangs a bright colour, which could include a shade of blonde and leave the rest in natural colours.
