Red carpet moments at the Star Parivar awards
Small screen stars set the night alight.
June 15 saw the Yash Raj Studios come alive with heroes and heroines playing happy family in an extravagant ceremony replete with scintillating dance moves and laugh-a-minute entertainment. The tenth edition of the STAR Parivar Awards just got bigger and better, celebrating the stars of its shows in a stunning extravaganza choreographed by none other than the suave and slick Shiamak Davar.
A show with a difference.
The uniquely themed award ceremony, ‘Yeh Prem Kahaani Hai…Parivaar Ki’, saw the stars of the ‘STAR family’ give spirited performances, burned up the dance floor with captivating performances. The stage itself was the cynosure of all eyes with its three sided Varsha Desai design and 3D mapping projection. In a first, the 3D mapping created multiple images of the actors and actresses that were then displayed at various angles, adding a surreal, larger-than-life illusion to the evening.
Silver screen in attendance
High flying Bollywood celebs like Shilpa Shetty, resplendent in a fusion salwar kameez and flowing locks, and Ritiesh Deshmukh curiously attired in a leather jacket, two-day stubble and formal trousers attended the show. Deshmukh who won the Best Judge Award for India’s Dancing Superstar tweeted after the show, “STAR Parivaar Award for Best judge – thank you team India’s Dancing Superstar. I share this award with my rocking co judges Geeta Kapur and Ashley Lobo.” The other silver screen stars present included Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha.
Songs and dances galore
The event kicked off with a stirring prayer-dance by Shiamak Davar’s troupe along with Bhabho, Naitik, and other popular STAR faces. Song and dance was the dominant theme of the evening. Sooraj-Sandhya from Diya aur Baati hum, Aditya-Pankhuri from Pyaar Ka Dard Hai, Gopi-Ahem and Rashi-Jigar from Saathiya, Aakash-Poonam from Ek Ghar Banauga set the dance floor alight. So did Ranvijay-Veera and their on screen mom Ratan from Veera as well as Nach Baliye 5 winners Jay Bhanushali-Mahi Viz to songs as varied as Bijli aaye na aaye from The Reluctant Fundamentalist to Radha from Student Of The Year to the merriment of all those present. Even Master Chef celebrity chefs Vikas Khanna and Kunal Kapur, joined the fun with intricate jhatkas and matkas.
STAR actors on a roll
The red carpet saw popular STAR actors Sooraj (Anas Rashid), Sandhya (Deepika Singh) from Diya aur Baati Hum, Aaditya (Nakuul Mehta) and Pankhuri (Disha Parmar) from Pyaar Ka Dard Hain, and Gopi (Devoleena Bhattacharjee), Ahem (Mohammad Nazim), Rashi (Rucha Hasabnis) and Jigar (Vishal Singh) from Saath Nibhana Saathiya pose for the shutterbugs. Aakash (Rahul Sharma) and Poonam (Ishita Dutta) from Ek Ghar Banauga, Nach Baliye-5 winners Jay and Mahi, Ranvijay (Bhavesh Balchandani), Veera (Harshita Ojha) and Ratan (Sneha Wagh) from Veera also strode the red carpet dressed to the nines.
Present too were several TV producers of popular STAR Plus shows. Rajan Shahi, SLB’s Arvind Babbal, Tony and Deeya Singh, Shashi and Sumeet Mittal, Rakesh Paswan, Yash and Mamta Patanaik, Kavita Barjatyya, and Rashmi Sharma attended the ceremony and cheer their actors on.
The new hit STAR song
Even as the audience reveled in the high octane music-and-dance spectacle, many stars were seen humming the new STAR Parivaar 2013 song, Tum Jo Milgaye ho composed by Sachin Gupta and sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Ankit Tiwari of Sun raha hai na tu from Aashiqui 2 fame. Carefully chosen to portray the delicate interplay of emotions, nuances and relationships that underline STAR soaps, the song is a reinvention of an old classic. Other musical hits of the evening included a group performance by Shagufta Ali (Moti Chaiji from Veera), Hina Khan (Aksharafrom Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai), Disha Sharma (Pankhudi from Pyaar ka Dard) and Neelu Vaghela (Bhabho from Diya aur Baati Hum).
Other show stoppers
Other highlights of the evening included the comic co-hosts of the first category of awards, Karan Wahi and Jeevika from Ek Hazaaron me Meri Behna hai fame. As the evening continued, Jay Bhanushali, Karan Mehra, Neelu Vaghela and Ashok Lokhande joined in to host the show. Monica Bedi sizzled in popular Lat Lag gayee number from Race 2 while the tight rope act by Anas Rashid (Suraj from Diya aur Baati hum) drew oohs and aahs from the audience.
The show will be telecast on STAR this July.
