Get your inspiration from the industry’s eleven slimmest stars.
Envious of Deepika’s curves? Kareena’s (one time) size zero figure? Or Katrina’s enviously slim waist? It can’t be easy, being constantly in the public eye. Plastered on billboards and theatre screens, Bollywood’s favorite leading ladies and gentleman may lead a charmed life but all that fame exacts a price. Strict diets, grueling gym routines, personal trainers and more. So, if any of you gals need a little extra inspiration for sticking to your diet and workout regimes, take heart from the slim secrets of your favorite stars.
Surprisingly svelte and slender, Priyanka seems to belong to the rare breed who genuinely can eat whatever they like and not put on an ounce. She’s completely non-fussy about food and loves her burgers, wraps and parathas. But having said that, Priyanka tries to eat sensibly on most days; her daily diet includes chapattis, vegetables, soups, salads, rice, dal and lots of fruits. She stays hydrated by making sure she gets eight glasses of water daily plus fresh juices.
The Bollywood diva turned yoga enthusiast turned businesswoman and mommy has one of the best bodies in the business. But it wasn’t always this way. Over the years she’s fine-tuned her diet to include low calorie delicious soups and healthy salads. Breakfast includes a protein shake, dates and raisins while lunch is a multigrain chapatti, veggies, chicken and dal. Dinner is just a salad with fruit (pomegranate or apple).
This Punjab da puttar loves to drink—no, not milk or whisky—unsweetened fruit juice. A health and fitness fiend, this Bollywood ka khiladi never misses meals but makes sure they’re wholesome and healthy. He doesn’t eat post 8 p.m. and makes sure dinner is very light.
This one-time bulky babe’s life is a veritable ugly duckling becomes a swan story. Reed thin Sonam loves sipping on coconut water and fruit throughout the day. She nibbles on dry fruit in between meals and likes to include lean protein like chicken, egg whites and fish in her food. Salad and pulses are also a must-have.
Another fat-turned-fit star, Sonakshi sips on green tea all day. Being a foodie, weaning herself off her fixation with junk food wasn’t a cake walk (pun intended!). She follows a high protein, low carb diet that includes salads, lean proteins like chicken and fish, dry fruit, chapattis, veggies and fruit. She doesn’t eat carbs after 6 p.m.
The lissome Southern stunner prefers eating egg whites, plain dosa with pudina chutney, upma or idlis for breakfast. Lunch is a sumptuous dal, chapattis, sabji, salad and raita affair but dinner is limited to porridge with pickle or homemade dal and steamed veggies.
The other Southern superstar who is closer to 50 but looks 35 loves chomping on broccoli. She swears by the restorative powers of cruciferous veggies and loves eating them in salads or steamed.
Malaika Arora Khan
The original item girl of Bollywood, she’s best known for her daring backless (and sometime frontless too) ensembles and sultry moves. She shed her baby weight with lightning speed and her daily regime goes something like this: A glass of warm water with honey and lime to start the day followed by a small bowl of seasonal fruit, idli or poha for breakfast. Lunch is brown or red Goa rice, two or three different veggies, chicken or fish and a bowl of sprouts. She prefers an early dinner of soup or salad.
This poster boy for the thinking woman loves munching on almonds. He’s a pescetarian which means the only non-vegetarian food he eats is fish. Breakfast is fresh juice, a six egg white omelet, buttered toast and almonds. Lunch is chapatti, daal and spinach, and dinner is the lightest, consisting of just soup.
This begum’s fitness mantra has been the talk of the town; from pleasantly plum to slim to size zero and back to slim, Kareena is a pure vegetarian. She credits green veggies and fruit for her glowing skin. Breakfast is muesli with nuts or two parathas and yoghurt. Lunch and dinner is lots of green veggies, dal and chapattis. In between meal snacks include roast channa, peanuts or fruit.
One of the fittest actors in the industry today, she started out as pleasantly plump. Bipasha has taken health to another level and the results show on her svelter-than-most body. She starts her day with warm water and almonds soaked overnight, followed by an eight egg white omelet, mushrooms and toast, and porridge. Lunch is green veggies, grilled chicken or fish, salad and chapattis followed by a grilled chicken/fish dinner. The husky voiced star also loves munching on apples anytime she feels a sweet craving coming on.
