Starry glamor at Cannes 2014
Awaiting the unexpected at this fashion extravaganza.
The 67th Cannes International Film Festival kicked off on May 14 in the south of France with a flurry of starry flounces and breathtaking cinema. The granddaddy of film festivals, Cannes is THE go-to to get a never-before peek at the top contenders for this year’s Oscars, heady fashionistas and unadulterated glamor. As Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation, says, “When it comes to the celebration, the recognition and the love of cinema, it is a festival without peer,” says. The festival kicked off with a grand opening ceremony and the screening of the film Grace of Monaco. Meanwhile, frock watchers rejoice! Check out a pictorial guide of top A-listers drenched in swoon worthy designer garb. Twelve whole days of glitzy gowns, and oh yes, a few anticipated films too…
It wasn’t all beauty and no substance. Salma Hayek kicked off the festivities at the screening of the inaugural film in a fuchsia strapless dress that clung to her curves. She used the platform to draw attention to the kidnapping of more than 250 Nigerian girls, carrying a sign with the hashtag ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ as she walked in front of a throng of cameras. And she wasn’t the only one to do so. The next day, Antonio Banderas, along with his Expendables co-stars Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Jason Statham and Wesley Snipes, held up placards bearing the same message.
Indian actress Mallika Sherawat joined Hollywood beauties Nicole Kidman, Zoe Saldana and Blake Lively as they posed on the red carpet.
It was all glamor and style on the fifth day of the festival when Sonam Kapoor and Freida Pinto sashayed down the red carpet in their stunning gowns.
