Sweat it out in style
Brave is the woman who can go barefaced to a workout. Still, smeared mascara and streaky foundation is hardly a look you want. Actually wearing makeup to the gym is totally doable as long as you choose products that stay on and won’t make you break out. Here’s a nine point guide to dolling up for a workout.
WEAR OIL-FREE FOUNDATION
Your skin needs to breathe as you sweat. Oil-based formulas trap sweat under it, making it smear. Plus you could end up with zits. Eeeks! Better still use a mineral makeup formula that’s natural and quick.
TRY A TINTED MOISTURIZER/BB CREAM
The more products you slather on, the more touch-ups you’ll need when you perspire. And we all know cosmetics and sweat are a BAD combination. If you’re blessed with a clear complexion and need just a light coverage, go with tinted moisturizer or BB cream.
GIVE YOUR CHEEKS A GLOW
You can look pretty and flushed with a light dab of powder blush. Find a formula that has zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, ingredients that make the formula naturally water-resistant and provide sun protection. Stay away from cream blushes that contain oil.
USE A TINTED SUNSCREEN
Especially if you’re exercising outdoors. It’s a far better option than foundation. This multitasking formula protects skin from harmful UV rays, offers coverage to even out your skin tone and moisturize skin.
DE-GREASE WITH A FACIAL WIPE
Sporting an oil slick post workout is not a great look. Blotting papers to the rescue! Dab gently but firmly to soak up sweat and oil. You don’t have to spend a fortune on mattifying formulas.
Embarrassing blemishes you just HAVE to cover up? Instead of slathering on a full face of foundation, use a matte, water-proof concealer to spot correct scars, zits, under-eye circles and pigmentation.
WEAR WATER-PROOF MASCARA
Even the best kajal tends to streak and mascara is the easiest way to make your eyes pop. Always choose a waterproof formula that stays put through your aerobic session.
TRY A TINTED BALM
Wearing lipstick to the gym is a bit of overkill. But it’s nice to sport a hint of color on your pout. Your best bet? A lip stain or tinted lip balm that won’t rub off.
SET YOUR MAKEUP
Use a facial mist pre- and post-workout to keep your oil-free makeup in place while you tone up and cool off after exercise. Plus they rehydrate skin and close pores to give you a smooth complexion.
