Cosmetic Dermatologist Dr. Jaishree Sharad
There’s no dearth of tried and tested Indian bridal skin care glow recipes, from haldi chandan ubtan to scrubs made of ground almonds and cream. But the modern bride (and groom) need quick and visible results in double quick time. Enter dermatologist prescribed treatments that enhance your beauty to help you look like the Prince/Princess on your Big Day. We spoke to Nykaa expert and CEO of Skinfiniti Skin & Laser Clinic, Dr. Jaishree Sharad. And this is what she advised.
Here are 7 bridal beauty treatments & tips recommended by the skin expert:
1. Fruit Peels and Brightening Peels
Recommended For: Uneven skin tone or blemishes that even cosmetics can’t conceal.
TCA and Yellow Peels reduce pigmentation and give you an even skin tone. You will need 6 to 8 sessions of peel done once every 15days. So, make sure you visit your dermatologist at least five months in advance. Lactic and Salicylic Peels are used to reduce acne and acne blemishes while Glycolic Peels boost collagen, reduce pores and make your skin glow.
Cost: Rs. 2500 to 5000 per session
2. Skin Polishing or Microdermabrasion
Recommended For: Dull and lustreless skin.
There’s a high probability that you have dead skin overload on your skin surface. Thus, light that falls on skin gets absorbed instead of being reflected, making skin look dull and lifeless. Getting your skin polished once a month with microdermabrasion treatment is the solution. It’s a safe, quick, convenient and effective treatment for all skin tones and types. It can be done on any skin surface that needs exfoliation including the face, neck, back of hands, legs, and chest.
Cost: Rs. 3000 per session
3. Oxygen Therapy with Mesoporation
Recommended For: Guys and girls who live life in the fast lane!
Pollution, stress, late nights, smoking and alcohol cause toxins to accumulate in the skin. The Oxygen Jet Peel is a detox procedure. Our body cells need oxygen, so this therapy refreshes skin with an oxygen jet that delivers concentrated oxygen which penetrates deep and stimulates skin’s metabolic processes. It also drains out toxins efficiently. Follow this with a brightening solution - a cocktail of vitamins, micronutrients, amino acids, and antioxidants. A mesoporation device helps the skin absorb the solution to deeper levels and the result is rejuvenated, smooth skin with reduction in fine lines and open pores. Begin this treatment four months before the D-day and repeat every fortnight for maximal impact.
Cost: Rs. 5000 – 7000 per session
4. Clearlift Laser Treatment
Recommended For: Foreheads that are darker than the rest of your face.
This could be caused by sun exposure, friction, reaction to hair colour and even perfume. If this bothers you, opt for Clearlift Q switched Nd Yag Laser. The treatment is repeated once in 6 weeks and 5 to 6 sessions are enough. It’s safe and reduces forehead pigmentation and darkening.
Cost: Rs. 8000 per session
5. Photo Rejuvenation
Recommended For: People who don’t have the time for month long preps
No time to start bridal skin treatments a few months in advance? Photo rejuvenation comes to the rescue. Popularly called Laser Facial or Photo Facial, it gives skin an instant glow, as well as tightens and closes open pores, improving skin texture through collagen stimulation. You can get this treatment a week before any occasion, but it’s important to get it done only by a qualified, trained professional. Your skin shouldn't be dry and flaky when you opt for this treatment. Give yourself a week's break before bleaching or waxing and treat yourself at least a month before your wedding to ensure it suits your skin. Then, repeat it just before your wedding.
Cost: Rs. 6000 – Rs. 8000 per session
6. Fillers
Recommended For: Deep under-eye hollows
Hyaluronic Acid fillers are a safe bet. They are also a good option to add volume to your pout if you have extremely thin lips. Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring ingredient in skin that hydrates it and helps in collagen synthesis. So adverse effects are extremely rare. However, make sure you go to the right physician to avoid over-injected ‘duck lips’. In case you don’t like the look, Hyaluronidase injections can be given to dissolve the filler. Remember, Hyaluronic fillers should be given at least a month before D-Day. However, in my opinion, fillers for brides below the age of 25 years are a no-no unless even makeup can’t conceal undereye bags or thin lips.
Cost: Rs. 25000 – 28000 per syringe
7. Laser Hair Removal
Recommended For: Freedom from facial and body hair!
Imagine complete freedom from unwanted hair! Imagine being free from all ingrowths! Stop imagining and make your dream come true by doing a Laser Hair Removal. The treatment should be started at least a year in advance to remain hair-free on your wedding day. One usually needs 6-8 sessions of laser and one session in every 4-6 weeks in order to get rid of unwanted hair. Brides must make get their hormone levels tested to rule out Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Response to lasers is poor if you have active PCOS.
Cost: Depends on the area being treated; for example, it costs Rs. 2000 – Rs. 2500 per sitting for the underarms.
