How to test a foundation colour?
Thank you for writing to us.
Lighting plays a very important role in choosing your base makeup shades. Therefore, whenever you have to buy a foundation, while choosing the shade, it is also important to pay attention to the lighting too. While yellow lighting can make you look sallow and sick, too much of artificial glow can highlight artificial white casts, giving you a fake ghastly appearance.
If possible, always choose your foundation shades in day time, or in natural light. Same goes for makeup application too. Natural lighting is best for your makeup because it does not miss a single detail of your face, thus giving you full control over your base application. There are certain illuminating and magnifying mirrors available in market, that can create the natural light effect for you, so that your makeup application isn’t faulty. If you cannot get hold of such mirrors, look for bulbs that are labelled “natural light”, or are closest to it.
If you thought that it’s just the light that matters, then, you might be just a ta bit wrong. It is not just the light, but also its positioning over your face, that matters. Overhead lighting is not that sharp and accurate. Therefore, always go for front lighting which illuminates the front and sides of your face, giving you full access.
All said and done, the best form of lighting is natural or daytime lighting, which reflects on your face from the front angle.
