Himalayan Cedarwood (Cedrus deodara) is an aromatic tree that dominates the skyline in countries such as India, Nepal and Tibet. It is majestically tall (reaching heights of upto 30m/100ft), with strong branches that sweep to the ground.Its inner wood is reddish-coloured and rich in essential oil, which has a soft, deep aroma and turns sharp and slightly sweet as it evaporates. In traditional Tibetan medicine, the wood and essential oil are used to help to treat respiratory issues, such as bronchitis, and urinary complaints, such as cystitis, as well as to heal damaged skin. The scent calms the breath and brings about a meditative state.
