Why we’re crushing hard on Priyanka Chopra’s award show makeup and the (very easy) steps to DIY it - By Parizaad Khan Sethi
Chopra’s found her beauty groove and has made it a signature. The formula is quite simple: Major lipstick + bold brows + long lashes + clean skin = red carpet beauty magic.
She rarely veers from this combination, and that’s what we love—finding your beauty comfort zone and owning it regardless of weekly trends is a policy we can totally get behind.
In all PC’s looks, lipstick is the star. Her bold colour choices proves there is NO shade that Indian women can’t wear. Plums, berries, oxblood, purples, pinks and reds—she’s worn a million shades and rocked them all (pardon the ridiculous Bon Jovi reference, but it seems appropriate).
Nothing kills a good makeup look faster than various features all vying for the prime position. In Chopra’s beauty hierarchy, lips are on top, and the eyes, skin, lashes and lips all know that. So, they man up and give the best supporting performance they can. Her brows are always bold, beautifully arched and provide the strong framework the makeup needs.
The eyes are beautifully yet subtly defined, and unlike most Indian women, they’re not the focal point. In fact, her plush and feathery lashes are more noticeable than the eye makeup. Skin is always flawless, perfectly positioned in between matt and dewy. Everything is in balance and defined without shouting out loud.
The beauty world is always in awe of that je ne sais quoi French girls possess. The French art of beauty is all about making it look like you’re not trying too hard. For instance, French girls wear red lipstick on a bare face; it’s an effortless look that proves they didn’t spend three hours getting ready. And PC’s makeup embodies that quality of ease, even though she might have spent a significant amount of time in a makeup artist’s chair. Instead of a painstakingly crafted smoky eye, she time and again wears a bold lip, suggesting a less calculated approach to red carpet dressing.
To channel Chopra’s breezy vibe, pat on a bare minimum of concealer, like Estée Lauder Stay-In-Place Flawless Wear Concealer, to cover up any blemishes or discolouration. Define eyes with a black mascara like High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara. If you’re looking for something a little more under the radar, brown works incredibly well too. Then, go to town on the lipstick. Our eternal favourites are Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Harlow Red, Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Tumultuous Pink, M.A.C Lipstick in Lady Danger, Clinique Pop Lacquer Lava Pop and Bobbi Brown Luxe Lip Color in Brocade.
