Quick-fire party eyes
Date: 01 december 2016

Here’s some runway inspo for easy holiday eye makeup, using nothing more than a few sticks of eyeliner, pencils and, of course, glitter. Psst: your lip kit contains a sneaky surprise asset for fall eyes - By Parizaad Khan Sethi

…Should be in your kit. Glitter has been on the makeup cards for a while now, so just embrace your destiny. Fall runways showed us that we can both, start small or go big. A hint of psychedelic glitter in the inner or outer corners gives a surprise flash. Another look we love: two contrasting or complimentary shades on the upper and lower lid

Or else, follow the lead at Emanuel Ungaro by mixing black liner and gold-green glitter. It’s a colouring-book effect with stunning results: Draw a black line halfway up and across your lid, parallel to your lash line, with Clinique Pretty Easy Liquid Lining Pen. To fill in the gap between the lash line and this one, use glitter in the inner half and a black or dark green pencil on the outer.

Playful manga touches will update your party look. We loved the poptastic eye at Jeremy Scott. You won’t need major makeup skills, just a steady hand. Choose any coloured liner in pencil, gel or liquid form. It could be a bright matte shade like lemon or pink, a jeweled tone like Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Stay In Place Eye Pencil in Emerald Volt, Night Violet or Electric Cobalt, or Clinique’s Quickliner For Eyes Intense in Peacock or Peridot. Or you could rock out with a shimmery gold or metallic liner. Draw a thin line just a hair’s breadth above the crease of the eyelid (pretend you’re applying eyeliner—but this is placed above the crease, not on the lash line). Finish the lash line with a black wing or just a ton of mascara.

The Little Black Dress of the makeup world is the LBE, and it’s as versatile, effective, and as simple. The line has an almost patent-like vinyl shine, so layering of product—a pencil topped with a gel liner and finished with gloss—is needed. Start by lining the upper and lower lashes with Estée Lauder Automatic Waterproof Eyeliner in Kohl Noir, making the lines as thin or thick as you like; paint over those lines with the Double Wear Stay-in-Place Gel Eye Liner in Stay Onyx, so the colour stays put. Once it’s set, dab a tiny amount of clear lip gloss on the lid for a patent finish—this will help to slightly smudge and grunge up the look as well. Grungy glam is, after all, the best kind of glam.

A gorgeous, glowy wash of colour on lids is one of our favourite looks, and pro makeup artists seem to agree. At BCBG, a veil of shimmery shadow covered models’ lids in a pretty look that’s perfect for the holiday season and takes a minute to execute. Lay down a cream eyeshadow stick all over your upper lid, extending it beyond the crease. You can choose virtually any colour or shade; we wanted to keep it fresh and picked the pink/peach family with Clinique Chubby Stick Eyes in Pink & Plenty, or Ciaté London Skinny Shadow Stick in Best Dressed. Wait for it to set and dab on a little peach or pink lip gloss over it. Small effort, big impact!
