11 Ways Treat Yourself This Month (Because You Know You Deserve It)

Singles’ day, a popular holiday that originated in China and falls on the 11th of November, is an iconic day of events for single people to celebrate their status. Intended to be sort of like an anti-Valentine’s day where unmarried people all over the world treat themselves to gifts, it is also the world’s largest e-commerce shopping event outranking Black Friday and Cyber Monday, with retailers racking up record numbers by slashing prices and offering impressive discounts. Fun fact, the date was chosen as 11 November or 11:11, as the digit 1 resembles single folks—coined in 1993 by four single male students in a dorm somewhere in China. Now, while this event is globally honoured for a day, we don’t see why you shouldn’t celebrate the power of self-love for the whole month. So, whether you’re single, stuck in a lull or just confused whether he likes you back, we’ve put together 11 ways to treat your beautiful self (psst, ninth is my personal favourite).

1. When was the last time you treated yourself to a massage? Exactly. Those knots in your shoulders aren’t going away on their own my friend. You could visit your local spa or book an at-home service. Relax, rejuvenate and reset. You know you need it. I know you need it.

2. Take yourself out for a movie. Since theatres have opened again, book yourself a ticket and just go. At least this time you don’t have to share your popcorn or be obligated to chat during the movie, you know? There’s always that one friend that keeps poking your shoulder right in the middle of a critical scene. I know I have one.

3. Vibe with your tribe (I mean your fellow single friends, of course). No couples allowed. Put on your best clothes and treat yourself to a nice upscale meal with your gang. If you don’t feel like stepping out, cook up a fancy dinner (quickly google some recipes) at home and invite the girls over.

4. We don’t need a bae to enjoy a staycay, okay? Book a night at a fancy hotel, order room service and watch a movie. You could slap on a relaxing sheet mask, add some bath salt to your tub and unwind. Just thinking about it makes me want to plan one.

5. Buy yourself flowers, because why not? If you’re lazy to get out of the house, get them delivered. Having flowers around has been scientifically proven to reduce anxiety, increase compassion and help reduce negative thoughts.

6. Gift yourself a feel-good purchase like this luxury makeup kit that also offers India’s leading night repair serum by Estee Lauder. This set of minis include a foundation, serum, and one red lipstick for ₹2500. It’s a steal deal if you ask me.

7. Make the time to plan a mini day out. You could either spend your evening in nature, go to a park for a long walk or visit a museum (what, museums are fun!) or pick up a book and visit a good cafe near your house. Very therapeutic.

8. Pick your poison and dance. Treat yourself to your favourite bottle, play your Spotify playlist on blast, and just dance. I do it all the time. Judge me all you want, but it’s quite liberating once you try it. If you do end up trying it, make sure to let me know in the comments section below.

9. Gift yourself a manifestation journal. Sending affirmations and messages out to the universe every day has proved to be a powerful practice to help move closer to your goals and aspirations. All you need is a notebook, a pencil, clarity, and discipline. Now, there’s no better gift than personal growth. Amen to that.

10. If you think that lingerie is reserved only for date nights, think again. Get yourself some new lingerie that no one will see but you. Wearing lingerie solely for yourself is a great form of self-care and an effective way to boost self-esteem.

11. Financial growth. What you may not realise is that you’re at a financial advantage over your married friends (no fights on where the money went) because you have fewer responsibilities. So use your money for personal development by signing up for a crash course and start saving from today if you haven’t already. Oh, and invest. The long-term benefit of investing now is a guaranteed treat, my friend.
