As a quintessential ‘90s kid, the allure of larger-than-life Bollywood films had me in a tight grip. I wanted nothing more but to look like the leading ladies of the silver screen. Some of my childhood shenanigans would include scrambling for makeshift costumes, sneaking into my mother’s vanity for glam and dancing to smash bolly hits in front of the mirror (a very nuanced, one-woman show). Years later, when I try to evoke those sweet memories captured in a dozen photo albums and through the medium of my favourite Hindi movies — I realise how iconically transformative this golden era was. We lived in the transient, treading the threshold of change with the amalgamation of worldwide cultures finding their way to our homeland — the ramifications of which could be felt even in the entertainment industry. Resulting in tunes with heavy western influences, enhanced movie-going experiences with adept special effects and, for beauty enthusiasts like me— fusion glam that the divas of the ‘90s donned with flamboyance. Wearing bold hues on the lips, flaunting frosty lips and metallic lids was mega back in the day. These immortal trends are making a comeback which inspired me to curate a 90s' lookbook, too! We are bringing back the '90s, baby, so put on your scuba suit as we dive right in!
