Warmer weather means a complete overhaul of your skin regime. So we spoke to leading dermatologists and Nykaa Expert Panellists for their tried and tested spring-summer skincare tips. Now youll know exactly what they do to protect themselves from sun damage, redness, breakouts, uneven skin tone, shine and more. You can thank us later!
PRELOADED SUNSCREEN
If you know youre going to on a beach or walking holiday make sure to apply sunscreen all over every nightyes you heard rightfor at least two weeks before your dream vacay. Why? So that you can build up sunscreen concentration in your skin. This makes it less likely to tan and burn while youre enjoying the great outdoors. You might as well use a moisturizing formula that nourishes skin too. We recommend Just Herbs No Sun Jojoba-Wheatgerm Moisturizing Sun Protection Gel.
SIMPLIFY YOUR ROUTINE
Theres no point crowding your bathroom cabinet or shower stall with multiple bottles and jars. Look for multi-purpose products. Bio Oil and Garnier Fructis Oil-In-Cream are all cases in point. Bio Oil is an amazing multi-purpose formula that fades scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone while hydrating dehydrated skin. Meanwhile, Garnier Oil-in-Cream infused with coconut, olive and almond oil extracts not just prevents dandruff, but doubles up as a styling cream and nourishes strands from root to tip.
TREAT SUNBURNS
Though Indian skin doesnt burn easily, spend enough time outdoors and youre guaranteed itchy, red patches on face, arms and legs. The trick is to get the inflammation down as soon as possible to curb skin damage and calm redness. Start by soaking a face towel in a bowl of chilled skimmed milk and applying on inflamed areas. Then apply The Nature's Co. Aloe Vera After Sun Gel. A few hours later youll be as good as new.
SPRINTZ ON SPRING WATER
Theres a reason facial mists are all the rage! Facial mists are choc-a-bloc with natural, skin loving minerals that calm redness. A must for hot summer days when you sweat a lot. They nourish thirsty skin, tone, prime and mattify your complexion, protect against pollution and sun, and set makeup in place. In fact, its your single most important skin-care accessory this summer. We love Forest Essentials Facial Tonic Mist Pure Rosewater and Kaya Refining Mist.
PEEL AWAY
If you cant make it to the dermatologist, invest in an at-home glycolic or salicylic acid peel once a month to clear up dull, dead skin cells, even out your skin tone and draw excess oil from pores to mattify your skin. Nykaa recommends Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask or Biotique Bio Peach Clarifying & Refining Peel - Off Mask.
STOP SHINE WITH SULFUR
If shine is the bane of your life then it might be a good idea to use a sulfur-based cleanser to cleanse your face. Follow this with a mattifying formula like Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel that contains Panthenol, Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe and Allantoin, and moisturizes skin, soothes irritation and prevents shine.
TRADE IN FOUNDATION
Hot days means its time to switch your regular foundation for a tinted moisturizer or CC Cream. Try Olay Total Effect Touch Of Foundation Spf 15 (50 gm) that give a luminous glow to skin, protecting it from harmful UV rays, evening out skin tone and doubling up as both a sunscreen and light foundation.
SCRUB OFTEN
Its a misnomer that scrubbing regularly can cause skin thinning. If you have normal-combination or oily skin, you should exfoliate at least every alternate day to cleanse pores and give your really squeaky clean skin. Just remember to use exfoliants with miniscule beads. Nykaa recommends Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant.
PREVENT BREAKOUTS
Don’t get misled by sunscreens that say ‘sheer’. Sheer doesn’t always equal oil-free. Always look for mattifying, oil-free formulas if you have oily skin or are prone to breakouts. Nykaa suggests Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturiser SPF15 or Dermalogica Oil Free Matte SPF 30.
