Elton’s Hair Trend Forecast for 2019

From his signature pronounced coif to his swag, celebrity MUA and hair expert Elton Fernandez is easily one of the most bankable brands in the beauty industry. My telephonic interview with the beauty genius instantly reminded me as to why we all just adore him back here at the Nykaa BB headquarters. Kind, relatable and well, just being Elton. Coming to Fernandez's’ hair trends forecast for 2019, I couldn’t help but recognize the stark connection between his prophecy and Elton himself. Bold, modish and fiercely unapologetic.

Here are the latest 2019 hair trends you need to try:

  • THE BIG SHORT

“I’d really like to see more Indian women step out of their comfort zone next year by first getting rid of the traditional long flowy hair that’s considered a sign of beauty and femininity. Yes it’s beautiful but lobs are taking over,” says Elton. Considering how we experience toasty temperatures most parts of the year, he believes this current hair trend works because keeping it short reduces the stress of maintenance and instantly makes gives you a younger appearance. That sounds like that THE fastest anti-aging solution before the year ends. Consider that sold.  And while you’re at it, pretty up those bobs with bejeweled accessories to amp the glam.
  • IT’S TIME TO PONY IT UP

“I think super lush ponytails like the ones Ariana Grande and JLO have been sporting the past year are going to be a HUGE hair trend for India in 2019,” foresees Elton. Give flirty bangs and baby hair a break for this look and sweep all your hair back into a high ponytail and lock it with some hairspray to tame flyaways. “For those with fine or short hair, think of investing in some clip on extensions,” Elton suggests. Popstar mode on.
  • FROSTY NEONS ARE IN

When it comes to hair color, Fernandez starts off by confirming that, “highlights and streaks are just so passé. There was a time when they were totally in, but not anymore darling.”  The expert strongly believes going global is going to be a latest hair look this year. “Go for bright bold splashes of neon depending on your skin tone. I’m talking candy pinks to icy blues. I strongly believe that going all out with colors is a celebration of one’s personality.” Too scared to go all out? Then try some brilliantly colored temporary hair colors for a change.
  • HIGH ON FRINGE

When it comes to a fringe, the hair maven throws the conventional route out of the window. “A fringe or the popular term bangs always looks better when it’s somewhere between commercial and edgy. I know that Bollywood is obsessed with side bangs but I believe that we’re going to see a lot more millennials taking their fringes really high up, almost to the top half of the forehead.” Modelesque vibes all of 2019? We can live with that. Don’t want to commit to a permanent fringe till you’re sure you want one?  Try a clip on fringe. The new hair trend is worth trying out.
  • IN THE MIDDLE

Contrary to Fernandez’s love for lobs, he’s aware that most Indian women may still shy away from bidding goodbye to their long plush locks. So, for those who fall in that bracket he says, “Go for a really slick middle parting, iron it out and tuck your hair behind your ears. Just lock it with a little serum because you don’t want to look too done up either.” He assures that the parting is really where the magic lies.
Coming to the end of our call, Fernandez signs off by saying, “It’s all about challenging yourself sweetie, because 2019 is going to be all about upgrading yourself and that starts with your hair. Don’t forget to be fierce, try something you’ve never tried before and don’t be afraid about what the world is going to think or say. It’s not about them. It’s about you. Never forget that.” Wise words indeed. Hair’s to a bold, bright new year.
