Five steps you need to add to your skincare routine today

It isn’t easy creating a routine for skincare and all the systematic to-do lists that come with it. While the standard Cleanse-Tone-Moisturise routine works wonders, 2019 has brought about its own rules and newer additions to stay in line with the latest discoveries that create result-oriented habits.
Double cleansing
It was easily the biggest trend in skincare last year and will continue to be on top this year too. Double-cleansing is about two things: Using a cleansing oil for removing all the grime, followed by the usual face wash routine. A good makeup remover like micellar water or makeup remover will no longer do the job given the pollution. So this is where cleansing oils or balms come in - they break down makeup, SPF, and sebum. This is followed by washing the face with a water-based cleaner to get clearer, more nourished skin. The second cleanse goes into the pores and clears out the remaining gunk and you can rinse everything out with warm water to see radiant skin.
What you need: A cleansing oil like Shiseido Perfect Cleansing Oil and a mild water-based cleanser like Clinique Liquid Facial Soap Mild
Essences
While the world is moving towards toners and moisturisers, Korean skincare changed the game by adding this new skincare step: Essences. What are essences and what do they do? They come in between a toner (when the skin is primed) and a moisturiser. This lightweight, hydrating liquid preps the skin to make sure it absorbs the serums and creams better. Essences are definitely an extra step but they help skincare ingredients penetrate into the skin better. The easiest and most effective way to use essences is to not use a cotton pad, but rather throw in a few drops into the palm and press it into the skin 2-3 times. The best essences hydrate, firm, and brighten, so pick wisely.
What you need: Innisfree Jeju Pomegranate Revitalizing Essence suits all skin types and is a power player in the Korean skincare game.
Acid toning
Exfoliating with acids has to be the most complicated step in skincare these days. Acids do have an immediate and result-oriented effect on our skin. They help in creation of essential elastin and collagen to keep your skin healthy and supple, and also restore radiance and battle pigmentation. Lactic acid, one of the gentler acids,  is known to remove dull skin cells to bring out healthy new skin. Glycolic acidhelps create collagen, so it’s all about the anti-ageing benefits. Malic acidfrom the AHA family fortifies skin while making sure that fine lines and pores are less apparent. Salicylic acidis a BHA (beta-hydroxy acid), and penetrates and purifies while adding moisture. Always remember to use a sunscreen after you acid-tone to keep the skin protected and radiant.
What you need: Makeup Revolution Skincare Mild Skin Exfoliator - 5% Lactic Acid + Hyaluronic Acid gives your skin that much-needed glow so use it on alternate days for best results.
Dry brushing
This step is so simple but it makes all the difference. All you need a long wooden brush that can be used face to toe. Use it dry or simply apply oil on your skin and brush it in circular motions. This helps exfoliate dead cells from the skin surface and also helps with blood flow. This is an ancient healing practice and is said to be beneficial in the drainage of lymphatic fluids and flushing out toxins from the body. All you need to do is to exfoliate or dry brush gently and in circular motions to reap its benefits.
What you need: Use the Kama Vetiver and Sisal Loofah for a simple exfoliation and the Panache Bath & Body Brush - Rose Pink for buffing the body
Overnight masks
Sleeping masks are a relatively new phenomena but they work wonders for the on-the-go woman. Use these masks after removing makeup and cleansing the skin, and massage onto the skin, so that you look rejuvenated and soothed overnight. Sleeping masks also seal in facial serums, creams, and oils, and maintain the skin’s barrier while letting all those beautiful ingredients penetrate beautifully. Choose between those that have hyaluronic acid (which hydrates while you sleep) but the most popular ones are those that contain retinol and vitamin A derivatives that help with ageing and wrinkles. Use a sleeping mask every alternate day and your skincare routine is amplified.
What you need: The Laneige Water Sleeping Mask is known to work wonders on tired skin while the Innisfree Green Tea Sleeping Mask improves skin tone and brightens.
