"Wellness to me has been a word that has changed in meaning so many times over the past decade. It started out from meaning to be healthy, and transformed into a more holistic approach of balancing out mental and physical well being. Over the last year, I’ve been able to truly understand what my body needs me to do for it, with the two main pillars being (a) some kind of movement, be it workouts or new found love for yoga; or (b) the effort to eat better. I have to admit, the latter is something I’m still working on day in and day out.
It’s the little habits that I’ve incorporated, I realise, that have really made a difference to the way I feel. Be it taking nutrition supplements, making that vegetable juice once a day with ingredients I think might be missing from my diet, or the effort to even make note of all these details which I didn’t look into at all until sometime ago.
My next steps towards focusing on my wellness? Well, believe it or not, I’m about to go off on a 4 day yoga retreat! If you told me this three months ago, I’d think you were joking – or talking about another Aanam. But it's actually something I’m so looking forward to right now. To be able to spend time focusing on just my own well being, working towards my inner self and bettering my tomorrow. If rumours are to be believed (from friends who have visited the same place I’m about to go to), then in a week from now, my life will have changed. Hopefully I’ll share the details of that experience with you right here the next time I write to you.
I’ll leave you with one little piece for advice (that you didn’t ask for!) – focus on YOU. The way your body moves, reacts, the food you feed it, or the way it feels after an activity. All of it comes together to comprise your wellness, physical, mental or emotional."
