Get That Midas Touch With The Metallic Makeup Trend

Make way, matte makeup. The new face of beauty favors high-shine, metallic drama.
Robot chic ruled the ramps this season with shimmery cheekbones, foil-plastered lids and burnished lips teleported from the future. From Alberta Ferretti and Balmain to La Perla and Armani, runway beauty borrowed from a rich, varied and pigmented palette, including bronze, gold, silver, burgundy, fuchsia and purple.
Even our favorite beauty bloggers are getting on the bandwagon, sporting full-monty metallic looks to die for. Best part? The metallic makeup trend works gloriously on any Indian skin tone, and can be tweaked to lend you some shine from dawn to dusk.
So without further ado, here’s how to get yourself from metal magic:
CHROME GAZE
Whether you want a grungy-smoky eye, or an irreverent smear over the lid, a show-stopping purple by night or a subtle, delicate bronze for daytime there’s plenty of variations of the
metallic eye look.
Make sure you use an eye primer to prep your lid, and take a little bit of Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Glitter Single - Brass on your hand, distribute evenly on your brush and dab off the excess.
Start at the centre, placing the product along your upper lash line and using your pinkie to smudge it outward, and then put a scarce amount on a small eyeshadow brush to brush the outer corner of your bottom lash line.
Blend the shadow outward and upward and then use the rose gold on the Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshine Pallette in 01 Milan and press into the centre of your lid to add an iridescent dimension to it.
Define your lids with black liner, and whip on Lakme Eyeconic Curling Mascara to finish it off, dabbing away any excess product with a cotton swab.
BY DAY: Switch up your dark eyeshadow with a single, translucent coat of bronze or rose gold, topped up with mascara.
MOLTEN MOUTH
The runways have seen some outlandish metallic lips from frosted pinks and blues to bedazzled pouts, gloss and shimmer to molten mattes. For the burnished lip, we give you an everyday iteration of the look without dulling your shine.
Moisturize your lips with some Bio Oil, pressing down on a tissue to remove the excess. Then, pick a pigmented, shimmery lipstick or gloss to glaze your lips with.
If you have a warm undertone, use a bronze or nude gold, but if you have a cool undertone, go full robot fatale with icy pink.
To add some more reflective magic, layer the color with a swathe of lip gloss – for those with small lips, this will also give the illusion of a fuller pout.
If you don’t like how gloss looks on your lips, get a gilded metallic look by using a creamy matte lipstick like Maybelline New York Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick in Clay Crush and then outline your cupid’s bow with gold powder, diffusing it towards the corners. You can either wear just that, or up the ante by pressing a scanty amount of Makeup Revolution Pro Highlighter – Illuminate into the centre of your lips.
No time for all that trouble? Just use L.A. Girl Metal Liquid Lipstick or NYX Professional Makeup Cosmic Metals Lip Cream for an instant alchemist’s touch.
GLAZED CHEEKS
What’s more alluring than an ethereal glow? The metallic makeup look need not be overt – iridescent cheeks via highlighter and bronzer are enough to do the trick. Just remember to wield that wand with discretion, so you look less lightbulb and more bronzed beauty.
Once you’re done with your base (and it better be matte), use L.A. Girl Pro Contour Cream to sculpt your cheeks, going under the cheekbone from ear to mouth.
Get a shimmer-infused glow with an earthy-bronzing powder like Lakme Absolute Moon-lit Highlighter, tap off the excess and run it down from your temples down to your cheeks. Blend well so it merges with the contour powder.
When you’re done sculpting and strobing, use a fine eye brush to smudge some highlighter in the inner corners of your eyes. Follow with a scanty amount of theBalm’s Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter, Shadow & Shimmer – Gold down your nose and above your cheeks, dabbing it with a damp blender so it settles in a natural glow.
Finish with a subtle cream blush to imbue a natural pop of color.
