It all began with the rise of clear, glass skin introduced by K-Beautyhat took dominated the beauty industry in the last few years. Shortly after, gloss as a trend gained mainstream attention with celebrities sporting literlly everything gloss—from beauty moghul Kylie Jenner to Priyanka Chopra to Sonam Kapoor being photographed in latex lids. We also see puckered, lightly stained lips achieved with the help of a fair amount of lip balm (maybe petroleum jelly?) for that iconic 2000s glossy lip trend. As for the cheeks, we saw shimmery powder highlighters being replaced with balm-based highlighters for glistening cheekbones. Coming to this year, the fashion runways were taken over by slick back hairdos’ this Paris Couture Week bringing the whole gloss back stronger than ever.

The best part is that they’re actually super easy to create. All you need are skin-loving balms, a solid mascara, and a shade of your favourite colour of tint or lip gloss. Ahead, a few tips for your consideration.

Au Naturale

Step 1:

Cleanse your face and prep with a hydrating primer.

Step 2:

Use a clear gloss or Vaseline jelly and apply as a liquid eyeshadow. Take a silver or bronze shimmer that complements your skin tone and use a brush to apply it at the inner corners of your eyes and shape the lower part of your brow. Don’t forget to add mascara.

Step 3:

Use the same gloss or balm on your lips too. Dab on a little extra product to make your lips look extra plump. Add a hint of tint if you fancy a subtle pop of colour

Step 4:

Use the same gloss and tint at the high points of your cheekbones.

For A Pop

Step 1:

Cleanse face and prep with a hydrating primer.

Step 2:

Use an eyeshadow of your choice, and build on it depending on how bold you’d want it to look. Lock all your effort with a setting spray to keep the eyeshadow intact. Add petroleum jelly or a clear lip gloss over the eyeshadow. Add mascara or liner. If you want to try something more holographic you can try this palette.

Step 3:

Use a deep colour that either matches or adds some contrast to your eyes. Use a glossy lip colour or you could add a gloss over a matte lipstick

Step 4:

Apply a muted, shimmery highlighter on your cheeks and the bridge of your nose for that extra glow.

Golden Hour

Step 1:

Cleanse your face and prep with a hydrating primer.

Step 2:

Follow this up with a gold-tinted foundation or moisturiser of your choice. Add a golden-hued eyeshadow all over your eyelids. Make sure you keep your inner edges and the tip of your brows lighter than your eyeshadow shade. Add gloss to your lids and a clear mascara (so that your lashes don’t steal the limelight)

Step 3:

Keep your lip subtle with nude colour and top it up with a gloss or glossy nude lipstick. You can add a little gold shimmer on your cupid’s bow for an extra pop.

Step 4:

Use a golden highlighter on your cheekbones preferably mixed with a gloss for a beautiful dewy glow.
