Pop Beauty: The Best Beauty Moments from Grammys 2023

Eyes glued to a 43” flat screen, an obscene amount of greasy grub with contagious energy enveloping the room as the gang plonked down to witness the Music Academy honour the industry’s finest. Yes, the GRAMMYS held its 65th rendition in the plush neighbourhood of crypto.com arena, Los Angeles, prompting me to helm a watch party (of sorts) in my living room. The coveted ceremony that brings together artists, composers and songwriters under the same roof has birthed many-a pop culture moments (over the years), some of which have irreversibly altered my brain’s chemistry. From Lady Gaga arriving on the prestigious vermillion carpet in a gigantic egg in 2011 (can’t get over it) to Eminem and Elton John’s fiery duet that had me screaming for more, Grammys has upped the bar for award season shenanigans with every passing year. And 2023 didn’t disappoint!

America’s sweetheart Taylor Swift was seen cutting the crimson carpet, personifying the Midnight Rain (in a midnight blue dress), sending the Swifties into a tizzy. The As It Was singer, Harry Styles won in ways more than one — a head-turning entrance on the venue, a riveting performance and the Album Of The Year. Kim Petras and Sam Smith brought the house down with their enthralling performance of the smash number Unholy and were bestowed with the Best Pop Duo/ Group. After surprising all with the Renaissance Tour announcement, Beyonce (hey Ms Carter) treated the audience to her presence along with hubby Jay-Z. Queen Bey made history with the most number of Grammy wins (her tally stands at a whopping 32) and graced the venue an hour late inviting the comedian and former The Daily Show host Trevor Noah to take a playful dig at the musical legend.

While the witty gags, mesmerising performances, and tear-jerking moments aided in successfully turning around what otherwise would have been a mop-ey and wistful Monday. I couldn’t help but marvel at the stunning Red Carpets looks donned by Lala Land’s A-Listers (the highlight of the evening, in my book). The event has set a precedent for risque looks, novel avatars and out-of-the-box glam and, sure enough, the stars delivered. From Lizzo’s all-spring ensemble with a rosy flush and OTT nails to Cardi’ B ombre lip, here’s me bringing you the best of beauty from the Grammys.
