Makeup Products To Cover Acne Scars & Uneven Skin Tone
1. Corrector
These are colored, tinted products that use complementary color to cancel out pigmentation. These should be used under foundation or concealer. For instance, to counteract the purple shadows in the under-eye area, try an orange or peach tone corrector. To cancel out redness in skin, use a green tinted corrector.You could also use a tinted primer all over the face under your foundation to color correct your complexion.

2. Foundation
Depending on how much coverage you need, you could use a sheer foundation or a heavier, coverage formula. If you have only a few problematic spots on your skin, it’s best to use a natural looking light coverage foundation to even out the skin tone and then use a high coverage concealer only on the problem areas. This will avoid a cakey, heavy look that one gets by using a high coverage foundation all over the face.

3. Concealer
Concealers are excellent for covering up smaller areas of pigmentation and scarring like under eyes, blemishes and shadows around the nose and mouth. The right shade and texture of concealer can make a huge difference to one’s face. I highly recommend all women to invest in a good concealer!

While choosing products, keep the following factors in mind:
Your skin type:
Choose a texture that works with your skin type. If you have oily skin, avoid very dewy foundation and concealers as they will make your skin oilier and break down faster. On the other hand if you have dry skin, go for dewy, moisturizing textures.
Coverage required:
If you just need to even out light pigmentation, sheer products work well and look natural. For everyday light coverage, BB and CC creams are ideal. I recommend the Lakme Complexion Care Face Cream and the Colorbar Perfect Match BB Cream for normal-oily skin and L'Oreal Paris True Match BB Cream for normal-dry skin. If you need heavy duty coverage, sheer products won’t help much and a more pigmented formula like the foundations mentioned above are needed.
Area to be concealed:
When it comes to concealing, the area to be concealed also plays an important part in choosing the right product. For under eyes, it’s better to use a liquid or cream product that’s not too drying. I really like the L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD for medium-natural looking coverage. Very drying concealers like stick concealers can look harsh and cakey in the under eye area. Similarly, while concealing a blemish, a slightly dry formula like L'Oreal Paris True Match Concealer works better than dewy formula.
Some tips for great concealing:
- While concealing the under eye area, always use an eye cream underneath to avoid creasing or caking when you apply concealer. The under eye area is very delicate and thin and needs hydration. Using a gel or cream based eye cream under the concealer will help it blend better and will prevent caking.
- If you have a very dull or sunken under eye area, try a highlighting concealer like the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer. It brightens the area while giving coverage, just what you need to lift a dull complexion.
- Always set concealer with powder. Concealers can crease and wear off especially in lined areas like under eyes if not set with powder. Loose powders like NYX Professional Makeup HD Finishing Powder work really well but you could also use a compact powder for touch ups.
- For concealing acne scars and blemishes, use a stick or dry cream concealer. Liquid, dewy finish concealers or brighteners draw more attention to the area hence a matte product is much better.
