Kiss-proof lipstick lessons from Nargis

“Serial Kisser” Emraan Hashmi is back on screen, locking lips with the  lady who owns the most luscious pout in all of Bollywood, none other than the irrepressible Nargis Fakhri. Based on the life of the controversial former Indian cricket team captain Mohammad Azharuddin, Azhar also features Prachi Desai will play the cricketer's first wife Naureen. One look at the film’s stills and you can’t help notice the way Nargis flaunts her perfect pout. That brings me to the genre of kiss-proof lipsticks. Sure, we all have our favorite lipstick shades but sadly they’re not all kiss proof. Fret not, I’m going to teach you four ways to make your lipstick last longer and stay kiss-proof all day.

Prime First
Think of your lips as a blank wall. Painters always prime a wall before painting it. Dehydrated lips can cause your lip color to crack or feather beyond your lip line, two major pitfalls when it comes to making your lip color last all day. Using a lip primer will hydrate your lips and provide a smooth, polished surface for your lipstick to adhere to. Another way to keep your lips moisturized? A nourishing lip treatment balm, and then a tiny dab of concealer or foundation to give them an even tone.
Expert Tip: Nothing like a good old home made beauty product. Try making your own on-the-spot lip scrub. Mix together ¼ tsp salt, ½ tsp sugar and ½ tsp butter or a few drops of olive oil. Apply all over lips and scrub gently.
Fill Them In
Choose a similar or neutral lip liner shade to fill in your lips. Can’t find a perfect match? Use an invisible lip liner or a very neutral beige or skin shade lip pencil. Filling in your lips first will create a strong base for your lip color to stick to and even out your natural lip pigment so it doesn’t interfere with your lip color.
Layer Away
To truly lock in your lip color, your favorite stain might be the one to save the day: Lip stains last longer than traditional lipstick, allowing for fewer touch-ups throughout the day. We always recommend applying a light layer of lip stain like the Colorbar Kiss Proof Lip Stain before using lipstick to help prolong your color. My team and I are fans of the Lakme Absolute Lip Tint Creme for all-day wear.
Blot and Blot Again
Use this technique next time you’re using a super-pigmented lip color: apply, blot, repeat. This is something I do for all my brides and models. Blotting between applying layers of lipstick will not only remove excess product, but also help the first layer of product to sink into lips and “stick”. Apply a layer of your favorite lip color, place a tissue between your lips and press down gently. The apply another coat and blot again.
Expert Tip: Try layering with different shades to create your own customized hue.
