• What causes hair damage, and what type of damage does a molecular repair formulation target?
Shweta Sahni: “Hair damage is common and has several causes. External aggressors, excessive heat styling, and over-brushing can cause hair damage. Even something as insignificant as tying a ponytail too tightly can damage your hair. However, the consumer-led conversation about hair damage has changed – the focus has shifted from surface damage to inner damage. • Bond repair vs. molecular repair: Does molecular repair take a different approach to treating hair damage?
SS: “Our hair is primarily composed of proteins, known as peptides. Each peptide can be broken down into amino acids, strung together by peptide bonds. This dynamic duo forms the building blocks of our hair. If amino acids are compromised or peptide bonds broken, the molecular structure of the hair fibre is damaged, which is what we call ‘inner hair damage’. To fix hair damage at the molecular level, you must address the compromised peptide structure by reinjecting complete peptides into the hair. However, peptides are often too big to be reinjected into your hair.

• Peptides have long been a buzzword in skincare; tell us how peptides are revolutionising hair care.
SS: “Peptides are all the rage in skincare. However, peptides are also the building blocks of our hair.
