MUA Arshis Javeri Reveals Three Foundation Tricks We Ought To Master

How many times have we watched an expert pull of a makeup trick successfully, but when we try to emulate that exact same technique, it falls short? That’s when you realize that the devil is in the detail. Which is why we’ve brought to you Make Up Artist Arshis Javeri, who is an internationally certified artist by Make Up Forever Academy. His clientele includes the likes of Guerlain Paris, JW Marriott, Wizcraft Shangri-La and more.

He shares the underlining secrets we tend to miss out on. Secrets so minute, you wouldn’t consider much of it. But they behold the true essence of the technique. Mastering foundation techniques without know them, is as good as not mastering them at all. So here goes…

Beauty Book: What is the best way to apply liquid foundation?

Arshis Javeri: “Liquid foundation is good for clear skin. If your face is bumpy or has craters, using liquid foundation is like applying paint on a cemented wall. If you want your foundation to look sheer, apply it with a sponge. For coverage on lightly pigmented areas apply it with your fingertips or sponge dabbing the discolored space. Professional makeup artists prefer using a makeup brush as this helps to blend the foundation in beautifully. Don’t forget this oft quoted dictum: when you think you have blended enough, blend a little more!”

Beauty Book: How can we conceal fine lines?

Arshis Javeri:“Don’t wait for the fine lines to app ear? Start using an anti-ageing cream from the time you hit 30. To conceal fine lines on the face (around the eyes and mouth) use a concealer in pencil form or with a cosmetic brush. Loss of skin elasticity is the reason these lines are visible. Applying the concealer on either side of the lines will shadow and diminish them making them look far more superficial. Dab-brush the concealer lightly to get a clear finish. I love YSL’s Touche Eclat. It works like a magic wand.

Beauty Book: Can you share makeup hacks that make our nose appear smaller?

Arshis Javeri: “This is my favorite question so far. How honest can we be with our feelings? Let me let you in on a little makeup trick. Just as we wear dark colors to give our bodies a streamlined look, we use a darker shade of power in the areas we wish to play down on our faces. A makeup artist’s trick is to apply a contouring powder to the sides and highlighting to bridge of the nose creating an optical illusion. It has the effect of making the nose look sharper. However, use it sparingly otherwise you run the risk of looking as though you’ve stuck your face into a spray tanning booth.
