We Tried The New & Advanced M.A.C. Studio Fix Powder, & Here’s Our Review

I don’t know about you, but I have grown up seeing my mom use the M.A.C. fixing powder as part of her final touches. I have proudly adopted this tradition, and will introduce my kids to this evergreen formulation as well. One would think this is where M.A.C. peaked with their can’t-go-wrong formula that is loved and cherished by generations of women, but I, like others, was so wrong, because they just launched a new and advanced formula of this iconic product, and it is better, and how.

I usually am of the opinion that why fix something that ain’t broken, but this M.A.C. studio fixer piqued my interest with its advanced formula, contemporary design, and sustainable packaging. So, without further ado, let’s see what changed, and was it for better or for worse?

The Iconic Formula, Redefined

This new formula is less mattfying than the previous version. It leaves a glow that’s ever so slight that it makes you look naturally radiant; instead of making your face look dry, it blurs out the uneven skin texture and makes it look like a filter. As compared to the 8-hour oil-control, this new formula offers a 24-hour oil-control look, so no need to dab every few hours. The biggest difference for me, though, was the talc-free formula that makes it cleaner and more conscious. It feels less cakey and more lightweight as compared to other setting powders. It’s more buildable and offers higher coverage, allowing you to use the product for every look.

Advanced Packaging & Design

Have you thought to yourself, Why do I need a new mirror every time I buy a compact or setting powder? This is what designers at M.A.C. thought as well, because the new Studio Fixer comes with a refillable compact and a recyclable container. You can swap out the tin that holds the powder and keep the mirror, the holder, the sponge, and the sponge case the same. They have re-imagined design and packaging to be more environmentally friendly and user-friendly. The beloved bulged compact is now available in a more levelled and sleek design to better fit in vanity bags and on-the-go makeup kits.

More Inclusive & Customisable

With 60 shades, this M.A.C. studio fixing compact powder is more inclusive than ever, in fact, more inclusive than most popular cosmetics brands, proving once again that M.A.C. is for the brown baddies who are always on the lookout for products that suit their skin tone, colour, and texture. It is also so lightweight that you can use it for a full face of makeup, or even for a light no-makeup makeup look for the days you just can’t.

Parting Thoughts

M.A.C. has once again proved that they are inclusive in nature, sustainable in their mission, innovators in their formulations, and pioneers in design. Their studio fixer powder is a statement in excellence and proves that no matter how great you are, there’s always room for improvement and efficacy.
