Let’s leave the energy and scheduling to the secretary and get down to the fun stuff: drop-dead gorgeous beauty looks that will blow the roof off of every soiree.

    1. COLORPLAY ‘N COCKTAILS

This party season, the runway gods don’t want you to play it safe – paint that dancefloor technicolor.  Fun swipes and swathes of bright colour are right on trend, and there’s plenty of ways to pull them off – use a rich cobalt as under-liner, a monotone block of pink on your lid, or add some edge to your smokey with a jewel-toned marsala or ultraviolet.

If you want to push your limits, you can colorblock by coupling it with a bold lip color, but all the best iterations of it on the runway seem to favour an otherwise nude face that allows the color to really pop without seeming too OTT.

Party favours: GlamGals Pigment Powder - Pink, NYKAA Glamoreyes Eyeliner Pencil - Blue Hex -01, NYX Professional Makeup Ultimate Multi-Finish Shadow Palette - Electric

  • 2. A MERRY, BERRY CHRISTMAS

The wine lip trend showed up under our Christmas trees last year, and it’s doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. It followed us from the Oscar’s to the MET to the PCAs, showing up in a variety of shades and textures – from a luscious creamy finish or a just-bitten stain to a saturated matte or juicy gloss; in wine, maroon, marsala, berry and plum.

Priyanka went all out at the MET, coupling hers with a gold glitter lid, while other celebs chose to wear nothing else, letting that statement pout speak for itself. We, personally, would couple our matte crimson pout with a shimmery but muted bronze lid.

Party favours: Nykaa So Matte Lipstick - Sugar Plum Martini 15 M, The Face Shop Watery Tint Lip Stain - Red Up

    3. THE SUNDOWNER SMOKEY 2.0

Say sayonara to the same old black smokey eye – it’s being reinventing it in a biggish way, incorporating glitter, embellishments or color. At Max Mara and Tom Ford, they forewent the gradient altogether for a solid, grunge-y, matte black; others skipped the black altogether, using jewel-tones, taupes, tans or browns instead, while celebs dressed their smokeys to look like a starry night sky, peppered with shimmer and glitter.

Whether you’re going grunge, glitter or jewel-toned on the eyes, wear a nude lipstick to balance it out; if it’s a daytime drape of taupe or brown, go for a brighter color on your lips to add some oomph to the look.

Party favours: Huda Beauty Obsessions Palette - Smokey Obsessions, Focallure Smokey Eyeshadow Palette - # 03, Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Glitter Single - Spiked

  • 4. THE SUPERMODEL SOIREE

The most timeless and failproof red-carpet (and party) look is a glowy, sculpted face and come-hither eyes. Just ask Giselle, Kendall or Gigi. The look involves a strobe-supported base for that peep through flow, a contour so subtle it looks like your cheekbones #wokeuplikethis, a creamy nude lip or gloss and fluffy, voluminous mascara.

This one’s great for when you’re going big on your outfit or wearing a color you’re not sure how to match. While it looks minimalist, it actually requires a lot of prep work to get that peep-through, luminous base, so make sure you work extra hard to get it right.

Party favours: L'Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes Mascara, Makeup Revolution Ultra Strobe Cream, Kiko Milano Smart Fusion Lipgloss - 03 Golden Rose

    5. METAL, FROST AND FUTURAMA

We’re glad that metallic isn’t going anywhere, because it’s perfect for the party season. What we love about this trend is its versatility: a gun-metal smokey is super edgy and experimental, while bronze or gold lids conjure old-Hollywood glam; metallic lips are very bad-girl RiRi while shimmery, silver lids coupled with a frosty lip transform you into a ‘90s pop princess.

Going for a metallic eye? Avoid looking like a disco ball by going matte with your base and lips. If you don’t want to do all-out metallic, you can use it subtly – a little silver in the corner of your eyes, or a metallic-finish bronzer immediately lifts and brightens your face and eyes.

Party favours: Australis Metallix Cream Eyeshadow - Lana Del Grey, Maybelline New York Face Studio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter, Kiko Milano Glitter Eyeliner - 02 Silver
