Being a bride definitely ain’t easy. Amidst the hustle bustle of picking the right venue, flowers, menu, wedding trousseau and the works, you might just forget the most important thing of all—YOU; and we aren’t only talking about getting your game face on with super-expensive beauty treatments or crash diets that will make look dull and lifeless (to put it mildly).
Ladies, if we haven’t said this before: ‘wellness’ goes beyond losing a couple of kilos by starving yourself, only for all it—and more—in a couple of months. It’s all about staying at the top of your health game with a regulated lifestyle, nutritious diet and an appropriate fitness regimen that will make you look and feel your best on your D-day. As celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar and dietician to A-listers such as Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, puts it, “What really looks good on us is confidence and good health”. So, why not build on that? Better yet, she tells us how!

Plan In Advance

Rome wasn’t built in a day; so, adapting a healthy lifestyle (or going on a strict diet) just weeks before the wedding won’t really reap those results that you have been hoping for. Instead, Rujuta recommends that you start at least three months prior to your wedding date. Eat clean, stick to seasonal vegetables/fruits and eat several small meals a day that will keep you satiated for longer. Easy enough? We think so.

Go Big On Ghee

If you’ve been avoiding ghee like the plague, we’ve got news for you. Shudh Desi Ghee contains essential fatty acids that lead to good assimilation of fat-soluble vitamins (more specifically Vitamin E). Result: an effortless glowing complexion. It’s also a great antidote for bloating as it helps line the intestines; not to mention, it increases the flavour of food—thereby auto-reducing the portion size of every meal and calories consumed. Seems like your grand mom was right after all! Pro Tip: For best results, have 3-5 tsp of ghee every day, preferably with meals.

Jumpstart Your Immunity

Stress, late nights and irregular schedules can wreak havoc on your immunity and your skin as well. Give your immunity levels a boost by having one teaspoon of Chawanprash—a powerhouse of flavonoids and antioxidants—at bedtime. Hello smooth and supple skin!

Say Yes To Haldi

In addition to your Haldi ceremony, it’s essential to include haldi (or turmeric) in your diet plan. Not only does it keep physical and mental stress at bay, but it also prevents UTIs and vaginal infections as well. Plus, it helps your skin beat the effects of tannin and pigmentation. Little wonder why regular dal-chawal-sabzi meals are better than a soup-salad regimen. Try and source organic turmeric so that you’re assured of its purity.

Snack Sensibly

Last but definitely not the least, how you snack can definitely impact your health journey. So, when you get a serious case of the munchies, reach for nuts, seeds and high fibre foods instead of deep-fried snacks; and we haven’t said this before: Say no to snacking post dinner.

Beat That Bloat

The dreaded bloat is what wedding day nightmares are made of. However, instead of popping a pill, have a glass of Chaas (Buttermilk) with Hing (Asafoetida) and Kala namak (Black Salt) right after lunch. While the Chaas is a good source of probiotics and Vitamin B12, the Hing and Kala namak combo will help cut down bloating, gas and even prevent IBS. Flat abs? Yes please!
