K-beauty fanatics, pay heed! After taking over the world of beauty with trends like glass skin, glazed doughnut skin and dolphin skin (which are all still quite popular with the editorial team back here at office, tbh), a new K-beauty trend is splashed all over the internet as we speak. Enter ‘Jello Skin’.

You heard right, we’re all currently comparing our skin to Jello— yes, the bouncy, delicious and plump dessert that some of us turn to on a rainy day (no?). It’s everything that we’d like our skin to be associated with—hydration, bounce, and a rosy hue. Now, who wouldn’t want that? The viral trend is actually, quite attainable too! It doesn’t focus on elaborate steps and routines like other famous K-beauty’s skincare rituals, but prioritises strengthening the three most essential components of healthy skin— collagen, elastin and water.

What Is Jello Skin?

It all started with esthetician and beauty influencer Ava Lee (@glowwithava)who broke the internet with her ideas about good skin, that begins from within. She said that healthy, pudgy skin should have the bouncy feel of jello, thus coining the term ‘jello skin’. One of her videos that went viral on Instagram includes a clip where she plucks at her cheeks that bounce like a jelly. Her top recommendation include incorporating products like Gua Sha, collagen boosting formulas, elastin and dietary changes (that also include a whole lot of coconut water).

Why do we need to maintain a balance of this power trio?

The production of all three components tends to reduce as we age, some of them eventually coming to a halt. Scary, isn’t it? In fact, when your skin is low on collagen, elastin and water, it doesn’t just look different, but also feels strange, stretched, dull and uncomfortable. The Jello skin trend, hence, is a welcome shift towards caring for the skin internally to boost the production of these vital proteins (collagen and elastin) while deeply hydrating the outer skin. Say hello to plump skin with a jelly-like aftermath.

What can help you get Jello skin?

Certain ingredients that are solely responsible in promoting these components can help you get jello-skin, while certain combination of elements in the same skincare routine can also be extremely beneficial. I’ve listed out a few products that can help (and are also my favourites). P.S. Along with these products, I’ve added some nourishing superfoods as well.

Along with collagen enhancing formulations that hydrate your skin topically, some lymphatic draining with gua shas and ice rollers, jello skin also needs nutrition from within. Add some superfoods to your diet including hydrating and collagen-triggering fruits and vegetables like oranges, melons, cucumbers, tomatoes, berries and leafy greens. You should also add protein rich foods like eggs, fish or fish oil supplements and white tea to your meals. And while you’re at it, drink more water, coconut water, and fruits juices regularly.
