Six foods to spring clean your body

After months of indulging in comfort food, it’s almost imperative to press a reset button to get your body ready for the party season. It’s time to wave ciao to sugary, floury treats and rid your body of toxins. The good news is that restoring alkalinity and balance is a breeze provided you eat (and drink) right. Here are six of my favorite foods guaranteed to put a spring back into your step and detoxify, hydrate, and refresh your body.

Green Smoothies
Start your day right by blending together a cup of greens like spinach, mint, wheatgrass and coriander with a handful of grapes. These leafy greens contain chlorophyll, a molecule that eliminates harmful toxins that make your liver sluggish and lower immunity. Grapes—especially black ones—are a powerhouse of antioxidants and enzymes that fight free-radical damage that causes inflammation. Another plus, their natural sweetness masks the bitterness of the greens, and you’ll look forward to slurping this concoction every day.
Green Tea
Reams have been written about the health benefits of green tea. Most importantly, it contains polyphenols, antioxidant-rich phytochemicals that detoxify the body. Drink three to four cups daily to significantly lower your risk of several cancers. Another plus; green tea contains catechin EGCG that improves memory and reduces belly fat when combined with exercise. What more could a girl want? Nykaa has a huge list of teas you could try. My personal favorites, Organic India Tulsi Lemon ginger Green Tea (Stress Relieving & Exhilarating) and True Elements Spearmint Green Tea.

Cabbage
Yuck you may well say but the humble cabbage is a super food made up of approximately 92 percent water. It’s a natural diuretic and is packed with glucosinolates, organic compounds that contain nitrogen and sulfur that flush toxins out of the body. Cabbage is also a powerhouse of Vitamins A, C, K and E, dietary fiber and folic acid. Toss it up in a salad, add it to sandwiches for extra crunch or lightly steam for a tasty side dish.
Water
The best things in life are free. Think fresh air, sunlight and lots of aqua. Start your day with at least two glasses of warm water and sip through the day. Drink a glass before each meal to take the edge off your hunger and drink up before and after a workout. The Mayo Clinic recommends drinking 2 litres daily to flush toxins from your liver and kidneys.

Pineapple
Fresh, sweet pineapple is not just a delicious snack but also a powerful anti-inflammatory and digestive thanks to the presence of bromelian, a powerful digestive enzyme. This enzyme helps to digest protein, breaks down fats, and reduces inflammation. The fruit is also a good source of manganese, the best mineral to boost your mood if you suffer from PMS.
Watermelon
The juicy red fruit is a dieter’s delight. It fills you up (1 cup has just 47 calories), cleanses your body and helps you lose weight because of its high alkaline value. It’s also a great source of energy and nutrients, flushes out the system, and is a great source of potassium that balances the sodium in modern diets, thus supporting kidney function. It also soothes inflammatory conditions such as asthma, atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer and arthritis.is one of the most arousing scents to older men. Try it on your younger man too…some creamy vanilla ice cream drizzled with dark chocolate.
