Summer’s here! Bring out the flip-flops, bikinis, and pina coladas! Lounging by the pool seems like the only way to cool off but if it’s at the cost of tanning, you’d need to do some rethinking. Luckily for you Lakme’s launched an entire sun-protection range just in time to have some outdoor fun! Craftily created, this line boasts of a sunscreen for every skin type (how thoughtful, right?). Adios tanning, sun spots, skin darkening, premature aging, and fine lines.
But first, let’s get down to basics
How often and when should one apply sunscreen?
The answer is simple: dermatologists say always whether it’s sunny, cloudy, or rainy you always need to stay protected. Ideally slather it on evenly, a whole 20 minutes before stepping out into the sun so that it forms a protective layer over the skin.
What exactly is SPF and what does PA +, ++, +++ mean?
SPF means Sun Protection Factor, the level of protection the sunscreen offers from UVB rays (cause of sunburn) while PA relates to the protection level grade. The more + signs the higher the level of protection from UVA rays (cause of photoaging and worse).
What is SPF 30, 40, 50 and so on?
The numbers denote how long you can stay out sans a sunburn. For daily use experts recommend an SPF 30 and reapplying every 2-3 hours depending on the kind of activity/sun’s intensity.
Now that the crash course’s done we can move on to some fun: choosing the formula for your skin type. Side Note: your sunscreen should always feature last in your day time skincare regime i.e. after moisturizing your face.
