Glowing Skin Secrets – Drink Up

#1 Drink up

"Keeping yourself hydrated on a daily basis is absolutely essential and one of the glowing skin secret. Drink lots of water, fresh fruit and vegetable juices, and coconut water. Juices are beneficial because they’re choc-a-bloc with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, all of which improve skin health.Aim to drink ten to fifteen glasses of liquids daily. In fact coconut water is especially beneficial because it helps to restore your glow by flushing out toxins. Try and avoid excessive alcohol consumption because it can dehydrate skin."

# 2 Use a gentle cleanser

"Cleanse your face two to three times daily with a gentle cleanser." If you have normal-dry skin Nykaa suggests Kaya Sensitive Skin Cleanser. "Oily skinned women should use a cleanser containing Salicylic Acid." Nykaa recommends Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. "Make cleansing an intrinsic part of your bedtime routine. Always remove makeup with a remover, not soap and water. A cardinal rule for beautiful skin: NEVER go to bed without removing makeup! Night time cleansing helps remove pollutants that settle into skin during the day." Nykaa suggests Bioderma Sensibio H2O. "Your night-time routine should also include a nourishing cream after cleansing. Massage it on your face, with outward and slightly upward movements. Wipe off with moist cotton wool before bedtime."

Best Tips for Glowing Skin - Toning

# 3 Toning

"Your cleansing routine should include toning. While cleansing frees your skin from unwanted toxins, toning ensures your skin stays vibrant throughout the day. It gives your skin the moisture it needs besides keeping it clean and free from dead skin cells. The pH level of the skin is also balanced with toning, leading to healthy skin. Glycerin and rose water, when mixed together, work as a perfect home-made toner. Toning your skin with this mixture before going to bed will not only give you a healthy skin but will also take care of pimples and other skin problems that bother you." If you have particularly oily skin you could try specially formulated toners such as Sebamed Deep Cleansing Facial Toner and Neutrogena Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Cooling Toner

#4 Exercise your skin

"Exercise can work wonders for your skin. Indulge in some sort of physical activity on a regular basis and you’ll be amazed by how good your skin looks. Take your pick from running, jogging, walking or swimming for at least 30 minutes daily. Activities like yoga and meditation are also useful in lowering your stress levels, which in turn can cause breakouts, eczema and rosacea. Whereas for your face, jade rollers or face massagers are all the rage. And it’s time you caught on."

Glowing Skin Secrets – Sun Protection

# 5 Sun protect your skin

"Skipping a sunscreen routine can cause premature skin aging, pigmentation, brown spots, tanning and wrinkles. It’s always a good idea to use a non-greasy, broad spectrum sunscreen that guards against UVA and UVB rays. Look for one with SPF 30 or higher, and use it even on cloudy days." Nykaa suggests Sebamed Multiprotect Sunsreen Spray SPF 30 for your body and Neutrogena UltraSheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 50+ for the face.

#6 Eat right

"A healthy diet can do wonders for the quality of your skin. Avoid eating fast food and oily snacks. Try and include a fresh salad with sprouts and leafy greens at least once a day. Citrus fruits, figs, radishes, carrots and spinach are all great for healthy, glowing skin. Eat a small handful of nuts like almonds and walnuts daily to improve the quality of your skin. And don’t underestimate health supplements, and consult your doctor on the multivitamins you can consume daily."

Best Tips for Glowing Skin – Moisturize Well

# 7 Moisturize well

"Summertime can be very drying for the skin. To prevent skin damage remember to use an all-over, water-based body moisturizer. You could also use a sunscreen infused moisturizer. Often oil-based moisturizers can cause skin eruptions so it’s best to stick to gentler water-based formulations. It’s also a good idea to wear long sleeved cotton shirts and loose cotton pants to keep arms and legs covered." Nykaa suggests Sebamed Anti-Dry Hydrating Body Lotion and Nivea Moisturising Sun Lotion SPF 50

#8 Use fruit masks

"Try and use a fruit mask at least twice a week to exfoliate dead skin. Mash fruits like banana, apple, papaya and orange together and apply on cleansed skin. The fruits should be mashed or made into a pulp. Keep the mask on for about 20-30 minutes. Papaya is rich in enzymes that exfoliate dead skin cells. Bananas contain nutrients that tighten skin, apples have pectins that cleanse skin and ranges are rich in Vitamin C that restores the skin’s normal acid-alkaline balance. Alternatively, you could rub a cut potato daily on your face to get glowing, flawless and clear skin. Many people are unaware of how scrubs can help you get beautiful skin. A weekly good quality, home-made scrub can open clogged pores and remove dead, dull skin, revealing soft, supple skin. Homemade scrubs are more reliable and give excellent results. You can also use a mixture of ground almonds and besan (gram flour) to exfoliate once a week." But for the lazybones, the fruit masks available in the market today are exemplary. They give you the goodness of the ingredient, without any added preservatives or chemicals. Besides, there’s one for every skin type and concern.

Glowing Skin Secrets – Get Your Fill of Vitamin C

# 9 Get your fill of Vitamin C

"Vitamin C or Ascorbic Acid benefits skin in multiple ways; when applied topically, it boosts collagen production and skin brightening. Eat plenty of Vitamin C rich foods such as amla, blackcurrants, blueberries, broccoli, grapes, guava, kiwis, oranges, papaya, strawberries, lemon and sweet potatoes. Vitamin C produces collagen, which further strengthens the capillaries that feed skin, giving you a radiant glow." Nykaa suggests Natio Ageless Advanced Lifting And Firming Serum for topical application.

#10 Start using Retinoids

"Retinol, a form of Vitamin A, is a powerhouse anti-aging ingredient. Retinol is the only anti-ager scientifically shown to work at a molecular level. This skin loving ingredient is backed by 25 years of scientific research, and has recently made a comeback as a superior anti-aging product. Over the counter Retinoids are usually weaker than prescription strength but are still effective though you may take longer to see results. Retinoids unplug pores, help clear upacne, reduce fine lines, boost collagen production, lighten brown spots and freckles, and improve skin texture." Nykaa recommends retinol-rich formulas like Dot & Key Collagen Restorative Time Reverse Retinol SerumSt.Botanica Retinol 2.5% + E & Hyaluronic Acid Professional Facial Serum and CGG Cosmetics Retinol 2.5% Moisturizer - Youth Potion Active Retinol Aloe Vera & Shea Butter.
