summer makeup looks to try

This is a part of our 'Beauty Book Tried and Tested' series where our team of editors explore and experience the hottest trends and formulas in the beauty and wellness space.

The bunch of beauty fanatics that we are, we are always in the hunt for something new and novel that we can try our hands at; while I tried some brilliant Kylie Jenner hacks last time as part of this series, this time my colleague Lakshmi Nayar and I have thought of trying out the best waterproof, sweat proof makeup products out there. Afterall, summer implies cold showers, glowy skin and statement pop hues - minus the meltdowns. But that’s not all we are doing though. Each of us are also creating one distinct summer look that we are completely in love with this season. The best part; you can wear this everywhere from your zoom meeting, intimate family dinners to date nights and even in the pool sipping on mimosas!!

The Look: GOLDEN GIRL

What: While I love pop-hues for summer, this time I decided to give the sophisticated gilded look a whirl. Afterall, there’s something about the opulence of gold against the sun that makes everything look oh-so gorgeous. Think: luminous, sun-kissed skin, shimmery gold eyeshadow, voluminous lashes, peachy blush and a dusty pink pout. PS: Since all the products that we are using are breathable formulations with water-proof and sweat-proof benefits, they won’t run off in the middle of the day or lead to breakouts. A win-win!

HOW TO:

1. Face

Start by prepping your face with the Estee Lauder Revitalizing Supreme + Global Anti Aging Wake Up Balm. Apply Becca Skin Love Brighten & Blur Primer to keep the makeup in place. Next, mix a drop of your favourite illuminator with a foundation (I love the Kay Beauty Hydrating Foundation) closest to your skin tone for gorgeous glossy skin. To hide imperfections, dab a concealer such as the Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Eraser Multi-Use Concealer and set the base with a sprinkle of loose powder.

2. Cheeks

For a natural glow, dab a highlighter such as the Sugar Glow And Behold Jelly Highlighter on the higher planes of your cheeks. You can also dust a thin layer of a powder highlighter over this for a va va voom glow. I have also used the Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer to sculpt my cheekbones and add definition; plus, applied the Terracotta blush from the Nykaa Professional Makeup Palette - Eyeshadow & Blush on the apples of my cheek for a gentle flushed look. Remember to blend well.

3. Eyes

Apply the Almond shade from the Nykaa Professional Makeup Palette - Eyeshadow & Blush as base on the lid. Next, smudge a bit of Nut Brown shade on the crease and blend with Honey shade to highlight the eyes. Use the same shades under your lower lashline to create a smokey effect. Next, press the Gold Glitter shade on the middle of your lid and layer more if needed, to create the gilded effect. Using the Kay Beauty 24 Hour Kajal, tightline the upper lash line. Finish off by applying a spot of gold highlighter in the inner corner of the eyes. Carefully apply two coats of the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes Mascara to the top and bottom lashes to open them up instantly.

4. Lips

Exfoliate lips to remove dead skin. Apply lip balm to hydrate and follow with a semi-matte nude lippy such (ideally with pink undertones) such as the Kay Beauty Matte Lipstick - Suspense

The Look: AQUA LOVE

What::  I have always gravitated towards blues when it comes to my makeup especially during summers. I have just always felt like it suited my skin tone better. So, the look that I’ve created for you today is one of my favorites and I only sport it when I head out but due to the current reality I’m going to embrace it at the comfort of my home with a glass of dirty martini (because why not, right?). I’m talking glistening aqua lids, a hint of glitter, dewy face and glassy nude lips. Below, I take you through my process and the product that I used from my beauty cabinet to achieve this look. If you choose to try this too, well grab yourself a glass and join me. What are you waiting for?

HOW TO:

1. Face

I always recommend building your base on a well-moisturized canvas. So, I start by adding a plush dose of hydration to your face with the Makeup Revolution Skincare Plumping and Hydrating Solution (my latest obsession). I’m personally not a big fan of using a primer so I skip right to my concealer which is the Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer - Honey. I follow that up with my holy grail foundation stick in the same shade (that has pulled me out of multiple bad days) the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick - Honey. I finally seal everything with the M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish Natural - Medium Tan

2. Eyes

For the eyes, I experimented a little by using a blush palette, highlighter and topped it up with an eyeshadow eyeshadow palette. Yes, you heard right. Here’s how I pulled it off. I began by applying the shade Mercury  from Huda Beauty Mercury Retrograde Eyeshadow Palette as the base. I followed that up with a slapping on some gold glitter by Miss Claire Diamond Shine Powder - Gold. I finally locked my eye makeup with some mascara. I applied the Kay Beauty Volume Mascara - Midnight.

3. Lips

Using a lip mask before applying your lipstick is always a good idea. It just makes the application a whole lot easier and it also gives your lips a beautiful, plumped look that instantly gives you a healthy looking pout. So I first start by using LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask Berry (godsent according to me!). I then mix a little bit of Nykaa Ultra Matte Lipstick - Monalisa 09 and Kay Beauty Matte Lipstick - Debut to achieve a nice, pinkish nude color. Plus, the berry mask helps attain that lush glassy finish that I literally live for!
