Gyokuro is the most prestigious of the Japanese teas, it literally means "pearls of dew".
The KimiNo Japanese Organic Imperial Gyokuro Green Tea comes from the first harvest. These leaves are shaded for a few days before being hand picked, which creates a light but complex blend and a luscious deep dark green colour. The shading helps the leaves to retain chlorophyll, which concentrates both the green tea taste and nutrients, making this a bright and flavourful favourite. They are steamed, dried and rolled length-wise. This tea, shiny and clear green in colour, will surprise you with its smooth and silky texture. The jade green infusion is mellow and fresh with slight accents of the sea. What makes this green tea so unique is that it is rolled from leaves of bushes that are kept under 90 per cent shade for about 20 days before harvesting. That prevents most of the amino acid L-Theanine from converting into Catechins, the polyphenols causing the bitterness in lower-quality teas.
