The biggest, boldest and brightest looks of the party season all focus on one feature: lips! Sounds tame, but these are truly next-level trends you’re going to love taking for a spin - By Parizaad Khan Sethi

We will never be able to stop ourselves from reaching for bright colours, but the ways in which we wear them changes with the seasons. Right now, the powder mouth is having a moment. This trend features a powdered matte lip with blurry edges. Created just for this cutting-edge trend is Clinique’s new Pop Lip Shadow Cushion Matte Lip Powder. We love this lip powder’s blurry, dreamy finish and eyeshadow-esque sponge applicator.
If you want to test out this trend using a liquid lipstick, then try M.A.C’s Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour and blur the edges of the lipstick with a cotton bud. If you love this trend, don’t toss your creamier lip products out just yet. Apply your favourite bright shade as usual, dab gently with a tissue, and dust on some translucent powder for a DIY powder lip. Another genius way: put on lip balm and dab your chosen shade of M.A.C Pigment over it.

Talk about a comeback. Everyone thought gloss was done forever, buried away with the sticky flyaway hair it caused in the 90’s. But the all-around 90’s resurgence was a warning sign, and gloss is back with a vengeance. TBH, we couldn’t be happier, cause all those matte mouths were giving our lip balms sleepless nights. But there’s the 90’s way to wear gloss (all over the lips—don’t do that) and the neo-90’s way.
To work the cool, new glossy look, dab some just on the center of your top and bottom lips—either by itself or over lipstick. For the party season, wear a matt lippy and top that with a daub of glitter gloss in the center of the mouth.

Now this one’s going even further back in the archives. Our moms swore by metallic lipsticks, we wouldn’t have gone near them if you paid us—until this year, that is. Metallic mouths are not so much a trend as a tidal wave, and we can’t help being swept up. This is the perfect party mouth—bright, shimmery and iridescent with a let’s stay out all night vibe. Whether you opt for a coloured chrome bullet like Estée Lauder Pure Color Love Cooled Chrome or take it to the next level with little specks of glitter like there are in M.A.C Metallic Lipstick, we’re behind you all the way. There are even molten options for liquid lipstick lovers like Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Lip and M.A.C Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Metallics.
If you want to try the trend before committing, just dab on a metallic M.A.C Pigment or frosted eyeshadow in a neutral shade over your fave lippy. We know you’ll be hooked.
