The season’s ruffles have us blushing and ready for a summer romance - By Parizaad Khan Sethi

We’re joining forces with the stylish folk at Le Mill to bring you a series of blogs, where beauty and fashion come together to offer plenty of summer inspiration!

Has fashion given us anything more romantic and flirty than a frill? You may know them as ruffles, or flounces, but a frill by any other name would look as sweet. To really drive home the romance, we’re pairing them with deliberately blushing cheeks and flushed lips.

We’re starting out with a strong cheek—strategically deploy a shade from theBalm’s How 'Bout Them Apples? Lip & Cheek Cream Palette—give your best fake smile and tap it on the apples of the cheek. To give the cream formula more staying power, lock it in with a sweep of Clinique Cheek Pop in a complementary shade.
In the beauty world, lips and cheeks are kissing cousins—that means using similar shades on these two features is a match made in makeup heaven. For a super long-wearing flushed lip, dab on Stainiac Lip and Cheek Stain by theBalm. Use the applicator for a precise finish, or blot the colour onto your lips using fingers for a more organic, just-kissed flush. Work quickly, it’s named Stainiac for a reason. We can’t get enough of multi-use products, and this one doubles as a cheek stain.

You’re now ready to pick out your flounced ensemble. Frills are a trend that have easily segued rom Resort ’17 into the thick of summer, and the Spanish Caribbean influences are undeniable. At the Brit label Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton rendered them in supple leather, but they’ve trickled across the runways in various forms. New York’s Tome employed form-flattering ruffles liberally across their collection, adding tier upon shapely tier. Fellow New Yorker Rosie Assoulin brought the drama to necklines and sleeves with a generous dose of morel ruffles.

It would be wise to make room—plenty of room—for ruffles, and the healthy flush they bring.
