The V-Day Beauty Manual – Part II

If pure, unadulterated glamour is what you’re aiming for this Valentine’s Day, don’t fall back on red lipstick. We’ve got a more exciting game plan for you - By Parizaad Khan Sethi

For a candlelit, four-course meal

Put in some extra effort for this this thoroughbred date night and turbo charge your red lip to dangerous ground. Oxblood makes the ultimate power statement.

Makeup Clean matt skin and a glossy oxblood lip are a heavenly match. Though this look takes minimal skill and effort to execute, it packs maximum punch. Start with a perfected canvas, by spot concealing where needed, and correcting the under-eye area. For this look, we need the skin to look polished, and the right foundation can help it get there. We love Bobbi Brown’s Skin Foundation for that perfectly in-between, not-too-matt not too-dewy finish. Powder lightly to set the foundation.
The lips are the focus, so moisturize and prep them perfectly. Apply two coats lipstick with a lip brush for the utmost precision, dabbing lips with a tissue between coats one and two. We love the rich red-brown-purple tones of M.A.C Lipstick in Diva. Top lipstick with a clear gloss, or use a dab of red gloss right in the center of the lips for a more 3-D look.
With a strong lip, it’s essential to balance the face with a well-groomed brow. Fill in gaps with Bobbi Brown Brow Pencil in Brunette and lock hair in place with Clinique Brow Mousse in Deep Brown.

hair A braided updo will soften the effect of the deep lip and brow combo. Add on a sparkly hair accessory to really uplift the ‘do.

For dancing till dawn

Eye-catching and fun need to be the keywords here, and this season’s trendy pink eye makeup is just that. Forget that pink eye is just the name of an unfortunate ailment, because it’s also a stunning beauty look.

Makeup Experiment with shades of pink to see what best suits your skin tone. Paler skin tones can try hot pink like Sophia Bush at the SAG Awards, while dusty pinks and corals work on warmer skin colours—like JLo at the Latin Grammys. Rose gold works on everyone. (These are just broad guidelines—experiment with as many colours as you can to know what you like best.) M.A.C Eye Shadow X 9 in Burgundy Times Nine is a great pinky-brown toned palette, while Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Pink Sparkle has a baby pink shimmer tone. Don’t shy away from experimenting with blush on the eyelid as well.
You can choose to use one shade all over the upper and lower lid, or create dimension with a deeper shade in the socket line and along the lashes. Finish with loads of mascara. Instead of a traditional eyeliner, use a gel pencil like Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Gel Eyeliner to tightline the upper lid. Highlighting is key to this party look, so run a cream-based product like Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight over the high planes of the face and on the inner corners of the eyes. Nude lipstick ties everything together.

hair You can’t really go too wrong here. Try long, loose waves, or a messy pony to really frame the eyes.
