Is it necessary to use primer for dry n dark skin?

Am actually using moisturizer for dry skin. Some of them are insisting to use primer? What it will do to the skin?

A primer helps to fill any creases and pores on the face and create a smooth surface.  The foundation is easier to apply and lasts longer.  It helps to keep all the makeup in place.
