Food and nutrition is overlooked by many of us ,but it actually makes a difference to build a healthy mind. Hence its correctly said " Healthy gut Healthy mind ".
You can include these food items in your diet to maintain and improve the mental health:
1. Leafy veggies - Do you know vitamin B, antioxindants and folate are directly linked to mental illness ? Yes, defincieny of these may lead to mental illness resulting to stress, depression , fatiques and insomnia. So include these in your diet to improve the mental health. So never say NO to dark green veggoes like spinach and kale.
2. Lean protein - A molecule know as " serotonin" which acts as a hormone and neurotransmittor is the cause of mood change. Hence, including food items rich in protein will help to inflence mood as it contains amino acid tryptophan that help to build protein blocks to build "serotonin". So if you are facing such mental illness problems then include food items like beans, low fat cheese, tofu, soy foods, nuts and eggs.
3.Yogurt and Berries - Not only good for health , but it also acts as a probiotic that helps to reduce anxiety , stress hormone and synthesize "serotonin" . Remember healthy gut is linked to the mental health. I have started having yoghurt and berries atleast thrice a week, trust me it has actually helped me to alot as the berries are rich in antioxidants that helps to repair cells and helps to overcome symptoms associated with depression and anxiety.
4. Whole grains - Our brain needs glucose to keep it steady and overcome problems like mood swings, anxiety, depression. Hence including whole grain will just help to improve the mental health as it provides the required fuel "glucose" as whole grains are rich in complex carbs to keep the brain active. Hence include food items like oatmeal, barley and quinoa etc , in your daily diet.
5. Food rich is Omega 3 - Do you know omega 3 fatty acids are essential to protect our brain cells and avoids their inflammation ,hence brain can actively send signal to other body parts as neeeded. Deficiency of Omega 3 fatty acids causes depression, so incuding food items like fatty fish, roasted soyabens, walnuts, salmon ,chia seeds, etc will help in keeping your brain healthy and balance mental health too.
