Life ain’t easy if you have curly hair. There we said it.  You can’t brush them (until you are ready to rock some serious frizz), you can’t style them (without the help of a million products) and don’t even get us started on humidity ruining your hair, every time you step out. Ahh, the horror.

Enter homemade curly hair regimen and DIY hair packs that will literally do everything; moisturize, detangle, de-frizz, define, I’m talking the works! The best part: they are completely au natural and devoid of any harmful chemicals. What’s not to love?

Check out these genius home remedies for curly hair that you need to incorporate in your hair regimen STAT.  

  • Ingredient: Mayonnaise

    Why: This one combines all the benefits of Eggs, sans the awful smell. Containing Oil, Eggs and Vinegar, Mayonnaise nourishes rough, dry curls and makes them shiny and bouncy.

    Forget the diet/eggless mayonnaise for this one and slather your hair with full-fat Mayonnaise. Cover your hair with a shower cap and keep it on for 30 minutes. Rinse and let your hair air dry. If you have really dull and dry hair, use this twice a week to soften the texture.

  • Ingredient: Avocado

    Why: Avocados contain the good kind of fat that restore the smooth texture to your curls. They also contain a high content of Vitamin E and Vitamin B that promotes hair growth and health. Moreover, it also helps to tame frizzy stubborn curls.

    Mash a ripe Avocado and mix it with one tablespoon of Honey, two tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and two to three drops of your favourite essential oils to form a smooth paste. Apply this on your hair and scalp and wait for 30 minutes. Rinse and shampoo as usual.

  • Ingredient: Eggs

    Why: Waking up with a head full of frizz is the stuff, curly hair nightmares are made of. Eggs are protein-rich that moisturizes, adds shine and makes the hair follicles stronger. Result: naturally, bouncy and glossy tresses.  

    Whisk one Egg with two tablespoons each of Honey and Yoghurt to form a smooth mixture. Apply it on your hair, from roots to ends and then cover with a shower cap. Let this sit for an hour before rinsing. For best results, use this home-made mask at least once a week.

  • Ingredient: Apple Cider Vinegar

    Why: Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is perhaps one of the best home remedies to manage stubborn curls. Since it’s a natural clarifier, it removes long-time product build-up and restores the natural pH balance of the scalp and the hair. It also seals the hair cuticles for shinier curls.

    Start by mixing equal parts Apple Cider Vinegar and water. Post shampooing your hair, rinse your hair with this mixture. Leave it on your hair for some time (usually around 10 minutes) and then rinse it again using cold water. Repeat this once or twice a month.

  • Ingredient: Hibiscus

    Why: Find your curls totally tough to work with? The Hibiscus flower has natural ingredients that tame curls. It’s also known to eliminate toxins and stimulate circulation in the scalp.

    Grind four hibiscus flowers and a few leaves with a little water. Apply on hair and leave for about 15-20 minutes. Rinse your hair with lukewarm water. Shampoo your hair the next day for baby soft curls.

  • Ingredient: Milk

    Why: Milk contains casein and whey proteins that nourish and improves hair follicle growth. It also makes your curls really shiny and manageable. Ooh la la.

    Blend together two tablespoon Milk, one medium sized Banana, one Egg, four tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil and two tablespoons Honey to a smoothie-like consistency. Apply this paste evenly on your hair and comb through (with a wide-toothed comb) to distribute evenly. Cover your head with shower cap and wait for 30 minutes, before rinsing out.
