The Only Everything Shower Routine You Need From Head To Toe

Imagine this: You’ve had a tiring week, with the responsibilities at work bogging you down, the never-ending social plans that can never seem to be caught up, the chores at home that refuse to reduce; you’ve finally found yourself with some well-deserved me-time. How do you plan to spend this time? Picking up that book that’s been gathering dust? Nah, don’t give the attention span for that. Surf on OTT platforms? Nah, can’t pick, everything’s either too good or too bad. A good bath that cleanses your body, mind, and soul? Now that sounds like a plan.

I don’t know about you, but I love a good everything shower, a shower that not only washes the dirt off my scalp, face, body, and limbs, but also washes of the stresses of the day, week, and even the month. And a relaxing, luxurious, and satisfying pre-, post-, and showertime is all you need to unwind and unravel. If you are looking for the perfect regimen to follow, this is my no-fail, ultimate curation that will ruin every other curation for you. So, what’s the wait? Let’s get right into it.

How To Create The Ultimate Everything Shower Experience

The perfect everything shower doesn’t end or start with the shower itself. It starts with a soothing and cleansing pre-shower routine that focuses on scrubbing off stubborn dirt, grime, and other impurities that are lodged in your skin.

How To Pre-Shower The Right Way

face scrub before everything shower

Start off with a cleansing oil from Anua for your skin that emulsifies and unclogs your pores to remove all the dead skin cells. I love this product as the oil really helps me moisturise and while offering a deep cleanse. Follow this with a Neutrogena face scrub. This face scrub gently but effectively exfoliates your skin and penetrates deep within to not just remove but also eliminate blackheads and other impurities blocking your pores.

Keep the scrub on your skin for a while, then move on to dry brushing your skin. This dry body brush from Bloom helps revive your skin cells and massages your skin to improve blood circulation and stimulation. If there is any resistance or friction, you can use a body massage oil, but make sure you don’t use too much of it.

Finally, wash off the face scrub and apply a clay mask that brightens, hydrates, and unclogs. While the clay mask is on, apply a hair mask that clarifies, cleanses, and strengthens the hair follicles. After 20 minutes, you can enter the shower and wash everything off so you are ready for the next step.

How To Ace Showertime

Now is the time to wash off the oil from your body, the clay from your face, and the mask from your hair. Use a clarifying shampoo from Anomaly on your scalp that will cleanse your scalp and remove all the sweat, build-up, excess sebum and oil. Follow this with a hydrating conditioner on your strands to restore all the lost moisture from the cleansing. If you have frizzy, curly, or textured hair like me, use a hair cream, curl cream, or a moisture-locking cream like the Dove Beautiful Curls Deep Moisture Miracle Hair Mask.

Once your hair is clean and hydrated, towel-dry it and tuck it away in a microfibre hair towel wrap so you can clean the rest of your body without your hair strands sticking to your skin. The move on to your body and first use a body scrub to even out your skin texture. Use a salicylic body scrub if you have acne on your chest, bottom, and back, or use a brightening body scrub if you have uneven skin, pigmentation, or tan.

Then move on to cleansing your body with a serum-infused bar soap if you have dry and sensitive skin or a gentle cleansing shower gel if you have oily or normal skin. Either way, this is the right time to remove any body hair that you might want to get rid of, and your skin is smooth, your hair has softened, and you won’t have to use any additional shaving creams. Just use a sharp, preferably 3-blade or more razor and shave first in the direction of your hair, then the other way around to get rid of even the smallest of hair follicles.

Now, you can finally wash your face with a cleanser. Once your hair and body are done, use a gentle cleanser to remove any of the hair or body care product that might have landed on your face. Your face has gentle needs, and products designed for other parts of the body can get heavy and even acne-inducing. Step out of the shower once you've washed your face and towel-dry with a microfibre cloth.

How To Post-Shower Like A Pro

Now that your skin has been in the water for so long, some of the natural oils must have stripped away. It’s to hydrate your lock-in the moisture in your scalp, face, and body. Use a hair serum. I use a redensyl hair serum for hair growth, a collagen and vitamin C serum for rejuvenation and brightening, and lastly a hydrating lotion for the arms, elbows, legs, and ankles. If you are planning on taking a nap after your shower, apply some repairing lip balm to avoid waking up with crusty lips.

Parting Thoughts

Showers are a sacred ritual you have with yourself to appease not just your body, but your mind and soul, too. Once a week, you need to give yourself this special me-time to not just restore your skin but also your other senses. It’s an invigorating feeling that can reset you for the coming week, and an everything shower when it does right, is no less than therapy.

FAQs

  1. What is the correct order of an everything shower?

The correct order for everything is

    • Cleanse your face
    • Oil your hair
    • Dry massage your body
    • Wash and condition your hair
    • Scrub and wash your body
    • Wash your face
    • Mositurse everything
  2. Why should I wash my face last?

When taking an everything shower, make sure you wash your hair first; the residue from the hair products can induce acne on your skin. Wrap the washed and dried hair, and then move on to washing your body and finally your face. Always wash the face last to remove any residue from other hair and body care products.

  3. Should I shave in the shower?

Yes, you can shave in the shower. Your skin is already exfoliated, and the hair is softened, which makes it easier to remove hair without bumps or bruises and helps you avoid using any additional shaving cream.
